Within the realm of horror games, there are many subgenres. There are survival horror games like Resident Evil, psychological horror games like Silent Hill, horror-themed platformers like Pumpkin Jack, horror-action games like Doom: Eternal, and even horror games spliced with comedy, both intentional and unintentional, like Dead Rising and Deadly Premonition.

One subgenre of horror games not seen quite as often are horror RPGs, and while a handful does exist, they aren't usually as popular as other horror games. Since horror video game series have gotten a few spin-offs over the years, why not develop some RPG spin-offs based on them?

8 Dark Pictures Anthology

An RPG spin-off of The Dark Pictures Anthology seems unlikely, but it would be an interesting way to have characters from all games in the series in one place. The best part is it could still have the choice mechanics the series is known for that determine which characters live and which don't make it.

Maybe the Curator could serve as the final boss, since he is omniscient after all, and the non-canon twist would be that he was the true antagonist the entire time and responsible for all the terrifying events in each game. It might be highly unlikely, but it would be cool to see different characters from each game interact with each other.

7 Silent Hill

Silent Hill hasn't had a new entry since Silent Hill: Book of Memories in 2012, so maybe Konami should wait until after a new one launches before making any spin-offs that completely change gameplay mechanics. But once a new mainline title has been developed, Konami or another company that Konami approves of using the license could make a Silent Hill RPG.

Since Silent Hill games typically have a single playable character in most games, maybe it could have some similarities to the first Dragon Quest. Konami has plenty of RPG experience under their belt, so it would be refreshing to see in the series.

6 Fatal Frame

Fatal Frame may not have the same international audience that Resident Evil and Silent Hill do, but it's still a relatively notable series despite its smaller fanbase. Between the Atelier series, the 2020 Fairy Tail game, and a few other titles, Koei Tecmo already has some experience developing RPGs.

A hypothetical RPG spin-off of Fatal Frame could use mechanics similar to that of Fairy Tail, where players have to use the environment to their advantage. Maybe it would still be turn-based, which would give players ample time to set up their shot and defeat spirits with their camera.

5 Evil Dead

The Evil Dead franchise has had a handful of different video games over the years, but Evil Dead The Game has come the closest to representing the entire series. What many fans probably don't know, however, is that there are many Evil Dead comic books that feature original characters as well as crossovers with other properties.

If Evil Dead The Game would rather stick to characters from just the movies and TV show, maybe an RPG based on the series could feature playable guest characters from across every medium that didn't make the cut. Seeing Ash team up with other fictional characters in a video game would be groovy.

4 House Of The Dead

The House Of The Dead series does not often have new entries, but it has had a few spin-offs. Between the well-known Typing of the Dead ports, the beat'em up title Zombie Revenge, the mini-game-focused title Loving Dead, and more, House of the Dead has already had plenty of spin-off titles.

Since there are so few playable characters in the series, it would be nice to see them all together for once. Maybe it could be similar to the Paper Mario series, but instead of timed button presses for different attacks, perhaps using different weapons could cause the player to play different mini-games either from or based on those seen in Loving Dead.

3 Dead By Daylight

Dead By Daylight is already known for its crossover content with iconic horror movie characters, so an RPG spin-off could go even further with that by adding more characters from previously licensed IPs, as well as new ones that may have been difficult to implement in the original game.

There would still be the option to play as either survivors or killers, but a party of iconic killers from horror franchises might be more fun to play as. Or maybe playing as a party of killers could be easy mode while playing as a party of survivors would be hard mode. It would provide another cool way to see horror characters team up.

2 Dead Rising

Capcom's other zombie series, Dead Rising, never had the same amount of popularity or staying power as Resident Evil, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad series. The Dead Rising series has plenty of interesting mechanics, such as being able to use over 250 different weapons, being able to create new weapons out of multiple pre-existing ones, and more.

An RPG spin-off of Dead Rising could serve as even more of a parody of the horror game genre. Maybe there could even be a buff boulder-obsessed agent named Clark Bluegrass as a party member and serves as a parodic take on a popular recurring Resident Evil character.

1 Resident Evil

Sweet Home, the predecessor to Resident Evil, is already considered a survival horror RPG due to its mechanics, so making a turn-based Resident Evil RPG seems like something that would have happened already. It could be a non-canon spin-off featuring appearances from characters of all past games, since a handful of characters have not yet returned to the main series.

Capcom already has some experience with this due to developing the now-defunct Japan-exclusive mobile Resident Evil card games Minna to Biohazard Clan Master and Minna to BIOHAZARD Team Survive, as well as the somewhat similar game, Teppen, so putting Resident Evil characters in a game with turn-based mechanics wouldn't be anything new for them.
