There was a time when heading down to the local arcade with a pocket full of coins was a fun way to spend your evening. Now, although arcades may have fallen from popularity, their games continue to live and influence. The classic arcade shooter of House Of The Dead pitted you and a partner with plastic pistols on a mission to eradicate the dead… from their houses.
The House Of The Dead Remake revives this experience for the modern player while containing a lot of the classic game tropes, including cheat codes. It's enjoyable to play through normally, but cheats can change things up in very entertaining ways.
How To Enter Codes
While many games new and old contain a screen where you can enter codes using a keypad-like UI, the standard is booting up the game and entering a combo. The House Of The Dead Remake follows tradition by letting you enter most of the codes on your controller while staring at the main menu.
You'll know you entered the code correctly when a bright green text prompt pops up telling you that the code has been activated. The cheat will remain in effect until you stop or reset the game.
Available Cheat Codes
Since The House Of The Dead Remake is available only on the Switch, the cheat code combinations rely on a sequence of button presses that are still reminiscent of classic Nintendo controllers. However, most of the cheats don't come free and require you to earn a certain number of Achievements before you can use them.
- Unlock All Secrets Characters (available at the start): On the Character Select screen, hold down L + R then enter up, down, X, Y, and Z.
- Show High Score (available at the start): From the Pause Screen, hold down L + R then enter X, X, and X.
- Infinite Ammo (8 Achievements required): Enter L, R, L, R, B, and B.
- One-Shot Kills (16 Achievements required): Enter left, up, right, down, B, and B.
- Unlock All Weapons (24 Achievements required): Enter A, A, B, B, LB, and RB.
- Unlimited Credits (32 Achievements required): Enter up, up, up, R, and B.
- God Mode (40 Achievements required): Enter left, right, left, right, B, and B.
The Easiest Achievements
The mark of skill in the original House Of The Dead depended on how many coins you had left by the end of the game. The Remake follows the current trend of adding a list of Achievements based on your progress and feats performed in the game. Since the best cheats require a fair number of them to unlock, there are some you should go for first.
Like many games, you'll earn Achievements simply by progressing through the story. No matter what difficulty you decide to play on, you'll get an achievement for beating the boss at the end of each chapter. To earn multiple Achievements from finishing the game, do your best to rack up more than 62,000 points.
For quick Achievements, you can earn one for killing a scientist and another for saving a scientist. You can also have a friend join your game in the middle of a campaign for one, finish a full chapter with them for another one, and complete the game from start to finish with them for one more.
