When you first start playing Genshin Impact, you'll quickly realize that the gacha system is an integral part of the game since you can hardly get any characters without taking part in it. This system unlocks quite early in the game, and you have various special currencies to spend on quite a few different banners.

Genshin Impact has an ever-growing cast of characters, but not all of them can dish out serious damage. Here are the best DPS options, ranked.

Each banner follows a unique set of rules, and you wouldn't want to spend your hard-earned Primogems in the wrong place. Here's a detailed overview of all the types of banners you can encounter while immersing yourself in Teyvat.

Beginners' Wish Banner Guide

Genshin Impact Screen Showing The Beginners' Wish Banner Featuring Noelle

This is a basic banner that you'll see as soon as you unlock the wishing system by finishing the first act of Prologue. The banner has Noelle on the screen and only allows you to do a maximum of 20 pulls. While doing a ten-pull on this banner, you enjoy a 20 percent discount, costing only eight Acquaint Fate for a multi.

The first multi on the banner is guaranteed to give you the four-star Geo unit called Noelle. She's a decent shielder and DPS for the early game. You also have a guaranteed chance of getting one more four-star in the second multi here, but you might also get a five-star if you get extremely lucky.

The Beginners' Wish Banner disappears permanently after the two multis, and you'll never be able to wish on it again.

Character Event Wish Banner Guide

Genshin Impact Chiori Character Event Wish Banner

This banner is the main attraction in Genshin Impact since this will be where you'll get the most anticipated characters. You'll need to stack up on your Intertwined Fates for this one and it's highly recommended to only use your Primogems here as well. Spending the gems on any other banner gives you a much lower value.

There are usually two character event banners in each update, and each one lasts for about 21 days. You can do both single pulls and multis here, and you have a 0.6 percent chance of getting a five-star character for each pull. However, getting a five-star character is guaranteed on 90 pulls.

This banner has a secret soft pity where you have a 50 percent chance of getting a five-star between 75-80 pulls.

You won't find anything related to this mentioned in the game, but it has been proven with time.

Whenever you get a five-star, there's a 50 percent chance of it being the featured character. However, if you lose the 50:50, you'll get one of the Standard Banner five-star characters. Losing the 50:50 once guarantees your next five-star to be the featured unit, and this guarantee stays even if the banner expires.

Similarly, if there are two or more character event banners at the same time, your pity is shared between the two. So, if you pull 89 times on one banner and don't get a five-star, you're guaranteed to get one on any character event wish on your next pull.

You're also guaranteed to get a four-star unit every ten pulls on this banner, and the four-star can be both a character or weapon.

If the four-star you get isn't one of the three featured characters, you're guaranteed to get one of them on your next four-star.

Weapon Event Wish Banner Guide

Genshin Impact Weapon Event Wish Banner

The weapon event wish banners are mainly for the people who spend real money on the game unless you like a certain character enough to save up a bunch of Primogems for them. This is because you might have to get up to three five-star procs before you can get any desired featured weapon.

The weapon event banner features two five-star weapons, and the pity for the banner is also 80. Similar to the character event banner, this banner also has a soft pity between 65-70 pulls. Once you do get a five-star, there's a 75 percent chance of getting one of the two featured weapons. If you lose this chance once, the next five-star is guaranteed to be one of the featured items.

If you win this 75:25 chance, you have an equal chance of getting either of the featured weapons, which is what drives most people away from this banner.

Before you pull on this banner, you can set the Epitomized Path to one of the featured five-star items. If the five-star you acquire isn't the one you set on this path, you acquire one fate point. Once you have two fate points, the next five-star weapon is guaranteed to be the one you set the path for.

Fate points can get reverted to zero in the following situations:

  • If you get the desired five-star weapon, the fate points go back to zero even if they weren't on two yet.
  • If you cancel the current path and select the same weapon or a different one, your points go to zero.
  • If the weapon banner gets changed to a new one, you'll have to start with zero points again since you set a new path.
  • Once you reach two points and get the desired weapon on the next five-star, your points go back to zero as well.

While you can't share the fate points between different weapon banners, you can still share the initial chance of getting the featured item. For example, if you hit the 25 percent and end up getting a non-featured five-star weapon, you're guaranteed to get a featured one even if you proc a five-star on the next banner.

The banner shares the same chances of getting a featured four-star weapon. However, even if you win these chances, you have equal chances of getting one of the five featured weapons.

Standard Banner

Genshin Impact Standard Wish Banner

This is the permanent banner in Genshin Impact that can be found on the right-most section of your wishing screen. It's the only place you can use your Acquaint Fates after you get rid of the Beginners' Wish Banner, and it's highly recommended to never use your Primogems here since the banner is permanent and the items you get aren't the best.

The banner shares the same four-star and five-star chances and pity as the character event banner, including the soft pity. However, when you do get a five-star, you can get any of the featured characters and weapons. There's no guarantee of getting a specific item here, and you can even get consecutive five-star weapons or characters.

The developers add new characters to this banner at certain intervals. These characters get a character event banner before getting added here.

Chronicled Wish Banner

Genshin Impact Chronicled Wish Event Banner

This banner type was first launched during the Version 4.5 update of Genshin Impact, and it looks quite juicy on paper. However, it might not be a very good banner to spend your hard-earned currency on, especially if you're a veteran player. This is mainly because this banner uses the same currency as the character event wish banner.

It shares the chances, pity, and soft pity with it. However, it also has an element of the weapon event wish banner in the form of fate points. Before wishing on this banner, you can chart a course to one of the featured five-star characters or weapons. Upon getting a five-star, you have a 50 percent chance of getting the item you charted the course to.

If you lose this 50:50, you get one fate point, which makes it a guarantee for your next five-star to be the desired one.

While this might sound similar to the character event wish, it works a little differently. For character event wish, if you lose a 50:50 chance, you can still get the featured character on the next banner. However, if you lose your 50:50 here and the banner changes, you will lose the fate point and will be facing a 50:50 again.

If you lose your 50:50, the type of five-star you can get is the same as the one you chart the course for. For example, if you chart a course to a five-star character, you'll only get a five-star character on losing the chances. Depending on the featured characters and your account, this banner can either be completely useless or highly useful.
