Many Warzone players might move right past the riot shield when selecting their loadout. Here are a bunch of reasons why it should definitely not be ignored.

Call of Duty: Warzone might be a battle royale game at its core, but there are some key differences that set it apart from its competition. One of the biggest and most controversial differences is the ability to select loadouts. Some would argue with the promise of a pre-picked loadout arriving should a player survive for long enough defeats the object of landing on the map with nothing and having to find weapons and items.

When selecting a loadout, many players will pass over the riot shield and not even give it a second thought. Big mistake. When used correctly, the riot shield can be the most important part of a Warzone player's loadout. Yes, getting close enough to someone to smack them over the head with it is tricky, but the shield has a lot of other big-time benefits.

Unlike a player's armor, the only thing riot shields are vulnerable to are explosions. That means thanks to its handy window, a player using one can find a vantage point and peer out to gauge who and what is a threat. An annoying sniper taking potshots at you and you can't figure out where they're held up? A riot shield in your loadout will allow a player to properly survey the landscape and figure out where those bullets are coming from without risking any damage.

As for enemies in the immediate vicinity, with the shield up, players can monitor their heartbeat sensor without worrying about being shot in the face. Plus, if a player is crouched, the entire front of their body is protected whilst allowing them to continue surveying what's ahead. Best of all, the shield comes in handy even when it's not in use. When stored on a player's back, it's still active and will protect it against attacks from behind.

Therein lies the biggest problem with Warzone's riot shield. It can't protect players from everything, and only one can be held and used at a time. If peering through it from a vantage point, a player's back is exposed. If stored on your back, a player's front is exposed. And at all times, attacks from the left and right are always a threat.

Even still, when used correctly, the riot shield can give players a much-needed advantage.
