When Should You Build Public Ceremonies?

holy day feast and festival public ceremonies humankind

Public Ceremonies are often very cheap during the early game, but you're more likely tempted to dedicate Industry to city infrastructure, wonders, and units. However, they can be useful to supplement the resources that your city is lacking. You can find out more about how to manage your city in our Humankind city management guide.

Here are some suggestions as to when Public Ceremonies might actually be a good idea to build.

  • The Feast ceremony available during the Ancient era is actually useful if your original Outpost and City are lacking food. Before you can attach another Outpost for bonus food, a flat bonus of five food, then ten if you build it again, can make a difference.
  • Likewise, the Parade Public Ceremony during the Classical era does stack with other bonuses from military infrastructure. You won't have access to higher-tier military tech until later in the game, so a few turns put into the Parade can give you an experience boost for early war.
  • Lastly, the only other seemingly worthwhile Public Ceremony is the Symposium. Not only do you get a competitive deed (for extra Fame) you're also more likely to have less useful infrastructure to build towards the late game.

Players have run a few different experiments of only focusing on building Public Ceremonies. It's pretty much general consensus that the majority of the Ceremonies just aren't worth it, despite the fact that the yield bonuses are permanent.
