Back in June, Humble did two things. First, they announced the Fight For Racial Justice Bundle, a selection of over $1,200-worth of games and books where you could pay what you want and all proceeds would benefit charities surrounding the Black Lives Matter movement. That raised millions of dollars for the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and The Bail Project, helping to keep peaceful protesters on the streets and out of jail.

The second thing Humble did was announce the Black Game Developer Fund, a $1 million fund that was specifically designed to help "elevate diverse voices in the game industry." Open to all Black developers and Black-led studios, the fund was Humble's way of ensuring an ongoing contribution to equality in gaming.

And now, Humble has announced the first five games that will all get $200,000 in start funds to create a playable prototype. After the prototypes are made, Humble will evaluate each one to see which might be worth additional investment to become an actual product they try to publish.

Humble chose some pretty awesome ideas, just based on the game's descriptions. Starting with Breeze in the Clouds from Stormy Nights Interactive. “A side-scrolling, hand-brawling platformer where the neighborhood pet corgi ends up in the clouds and gains weather powers," reads the game blurb. "Now he’s ready to defeat pollution and save the world!”

Hard to top that, but then we have PENSION$ from Epoch Media. "Based on a graphic novel, PENSION$ is the story of a financially strapped college professor who is approached by a mysterious cowboy that presents him with a lucrative opportunity. The job—manipulating the state’s pension program by killing off retirees.”

Adam Kareem’s Protodroid DeLTA is “a 3D action-platformer set in a beautiful Solarpunk world with a hopeful yet non-utopian vision of the future," while Joinplay Games’ Amma: Chronicles of Lost Stars is "a 3D Afrofantasy action-adventure RPG set in a charming world, rich with exploration and narration inspired by the Dogon mythology.”

Finally, KindFolkx from Taco Pizza Cat is a "collectible card game dungeon crawler that turns the genre on its head with exciting real-time battles. Randomly selected enemies, events, and treasures will make each run different.”

All of these sound great, frankly. Humble doesn't need to choose just one to further develop, so here's hoping that every prototype gets built to be as fun as they sound from their descriptions.
