Hunter x Hunter is a very popular anime that fans have been clamoring to return for years at this point. It follows the journey of a young boy named Gon who's trying to find out what happened to his absent father and where he ended up.

Though the show becomes much more serious and mature than Pokemon, they both center around loyalty and friendship at their core. Let's take a look at a few Hunter x Hunter characters and their perfect Pokemon partner, including the entire roster of creatures through Pokemon Sword & Shield.

10 Tonpa (Zoroark)

tonpa zoroark

People who watch Hunter x Hunter either love or hate Tonpa, aka the Rookie Crusher. His whole goal in life is to make rookie participants of the Hunter Exam quit for one reason or another. Tonpa isn't evil, but rather just the type of person who basks in other's misery. Zoroark is a Dark-type Pokemon who loves mischief and trickery. Much like Tonpa, it's essentially a creation meant to invoke the iconic parts of Loki, the God of Mischief in Norse mythology. It wouldn't be surprising if Tonpa's own Zoroark played a trick on him at some point.

9 Netero (Medicham)

netero medicham

Netero is such a powerful character, that pairing him with a Pokemon might just make his capabilities worse. This means that pairing him with a thematic partner regardless of that creature's power seems most fitting to who he is. Medicham and its Mega form immediately come to mind as Netero is a character often in a state of meditation, trying to focus on the task at hand. He'd likely not care that Medicham is both Fighting and Psychic-type and would rather worry about if it was properly fed and taken care of.

8 Palm (Morpeko)

Palm is introduced in the show as a terrifying woman who resembles the evil monster in a Japanese horror film. She's later revealed to have a much more welcoming and beautiful form that makes her feel much more human in a meaningful way.

Morpeko is an Electric and Dark-type Pokemon with the same type of image problem. Its Full Belly Mode resembles an adorable rodent, and its Hangry Mode looks like a devilish demon. Unfortunately for Palm, Morpeko changes its form every turn in battle.

7 Biscuit (Jigglypuff)

When looking at the listing of characters and which Pokemon pair well with them, Biscuit's flew off the page almost immediately. She's known as a capable fighter with a real anger issue that will snap at observers who don't listen to her. Jigglypuff happens to be a Fairy-type Pokemon with the same issues and response. As a pair, they may not help one another overcome their flaws, but often people just want to be surrounded by someone or something that understands them, and in that respect, Biscuit and Jigglypuff seem like an ideal partnership.

6 Chrollo (Noivern)

Chrollo noivern

Chrollo is one of the most powerful characters in the anime and has shown a lack of remorse that make him feel truly evil. There are plenty of Poison and/or Ghost-types that might give off evil vibes, but someone like Chrollo seems like the type to prefer power over cheap tactics. Noivern is a pretty powerful Dragon-type Pokemon that's best utilized at night, and since the Phantom Troupe loves to work in the shadows, it seems like a proper pairing between evil incarnate and a giant colossal bat.

5 Leorio (Chansey)

leorio chansey

Leorio is a caretaker by trade and naturally looks out for people when he can. He'll likely lean towards partnering up with a creature who is also a natural-born healer to make the relationship as effective as possible. In the world of Pokemon, it's hard to find a more natural healer than the Normal-type Pokemon called Chansey. It's often found as a vital member of Pokemon Center as it serves on the staff under Nurse Joy. With a Chansey by his side, it'd be hard for Leorio not to save any and everyone he comes across.

4 Kurapika (Umbreon)

It only feels right that Kurapika catches and trains a Pokemon with red eyes. That's what the color of his tribe's eyes were before they were all murdered by the infamous Phantom Troupe. Kurapika may not have a connection to the moon that Umbreon does, but he's just as mysterious and ethereal.

In terms of character design, Kurapika is quite androgynous-looking, and in turn, based on his personality he wouldn't mind at all if his Pokemon partner carried a strong feminine energy about itself.

3 Hisoka (Gengar)

hisoka gengar

Hisoka's iconic look is very familiar to that of a jester or clown, but he's much more menacing than Pokemon like Mr. Mime. He's the type of person who would prefer a terrifying Pokemon that struck fear in his opponents. Hisoka loves to mess with people and Gengar falls very much in line with that interest in entertainment. The Poison and Ghost-type can put things to sleep and feed on their nightmares. An act Hisoka would never tire from witnessing as the number of victims skyrockets.

2 Killua (Pikachu)

killua pikachu

Those familiar with Killua and his powers understand why an Electric-type fits perfectly as a Pokemon partner. Pikachu may not be the swift assassin that Killua is known as, but it does offer the energy source he needs to power up his incredible lightning attacks. As powerful as Killua is, he often just likes to relax and act like a kid alongside Gon. Pikachu is the type of Pokemon that can hold its own in battle, but at the same time is a blast to hang out with on a day to day basis and is a great source of laughs and entertainment.

1 Gon (Eevee)

gon eevee

Gon on the surface is a fun and lovable kid who appreciates friendship and loyalty above all else. He's also a great representation of potential and how it can turn into incredible power and talent when molded in the right way. Eevee is the Pokemon equivalent of that and is the epitome of potential. It also happens to be cute and adorable which would fit in with Gon's entire vibe. He's never the person that needs to impress or intimidate and is often most worried about protecting those around him he truly cares about.
