Quick Links

At the start of Icarus, you will be creating stone, wood, and iron objects to help you survive and complete prospects. As time goes by and you level up, you will eventually be able to craft composites, which can be turned into a variety of tools and other useful items.

Although items made with composites are strong, it may take you a while to make this material. We are here to help though; in this guide, we are going to go over how to make composites, as well as what you can do with this material. First, let's take a look at a few requirements before you can make composites.

Unlocking The Fabricator

tier 4 of technology tree with fabricator

To craft composites, as well as any item that uses this material, you will need to build a fabricator. This is the crafting table on tier four of the crafting tree, which means you will need to be level 30 to build it.

The fabricator can be constructed with the following items.

  • 8 Steel Ingot
  • 40 Aluminum Ingot
  • 60 Electronics
  • 30 Concrete Mix
  • 8 Carbon Fiber
  • 30 Steel Screws

With these materials, you can build and place your very own fabricator. Next, let's take a look at crafting the material processor.

Building A Material Processor

After you build a fabricator, you will need to make a material processor. To make this piece of equipment, you will need the following materials. Remember, you can only build the material processor from the fabricator, so it's important that you have this crafting station built already.

  • 30 Aluminum Ingot
  • 80 Electronics
  • 12 Steel Screws
  • 8 Titanium Ingot
  • 8 Carbon Fiber

With your material processor built, you can then go on to research composite paste on the technology tree. This material attaches directly to the material processor on the technology tree and can be made at the machine as well.

Below, you can check out all the required materials needed to make composite paste.

  • 2 Iron Ore
  • 1 Silica Ore
  • 1 Organic Resin
  • 1 Gold Ore

Overall, this blueprint is not too hard to make. Ore can be found around cliffs and in mountains, while organic resin can be made from the material processor or the mortar and pestle. To make organic resin, you just need one piece of wood and one piece of oxite ore. The mortar and pestle is also used to make a variety of items, such as steel blooms and epoxy. It's a good idea to build a mortar and pestle once you reach level 10 and unlock the second tier of the technology tree.

Smelting Composite Paste

Making composites is a long process, but we are almost done! With your newly crafted composite paste, it's time to smelt it in an electric furnace.

The electric furnace is also a tier four item; it can be found right next to the material processor on the technology tree. To make an electric furnace, you will need the following materials.

  • 30 Steel Ingot
  • 4 Glass
  • 60 Electronics
  • 80 Concrete Mix
  • 8 Steel Screws

From your electric furnace, you will now be able to create composites from one composite paste.

What To Do With Composites

After completing the above steps, you should now have your very own composites. Below, let's take a look at items that you can craft with composites, the materials required, and what the items do. All of these items can be found on tier four of the crafting tree, which will unlock at level 30 unless otherwise specified.

Is Crafting Composites Worth It?

Overall, crafting composites takes a lot of time and resources. Almost every item that you can craft with composites will also require electronics. This is a material that is crafted with the following materials.

  • 1 Refined Gold
  • 1 Copper Ingot
  • 2 Organic Resin
  • 2 Epoxy

Gold is a limited resource on Icarus and can be very hard to find. Additionally, this is a non-renewable resource, meaning that once you mine all the ore in a cave, you will need to go exploring for more. While it's possible to find more gold, it's hard if you are traveling by yourself.

Composite-based items are worth it if you are playing with others. With several people on a prospect, you can quickly gather all the resources you need to make composites. Several people can explore different caves, maximizing the amount of gold ore found.

If you are playing solo, it may be a bit more difficult to obtain the materials needed to craft composites. You will definitely need to grind and visit multiple caves to gather enough gold ore for the items listed above.

It's important to remember that, although composites are a strong material, they are not necessary. If you are struggling to build any of the items above, it's okay. Titanium items work just as well and can get the job done. Many prospects have the resources available to craft advanced blueprints, but since these items will not carry over to future prospects, you do not have to craft composites every time you are on Icarus.

That's all there is to know about composites. If you want to make this material, be sure to build a fabricator and material processor!
