Once you reach tier two on the technology tree in Icarus, you will start to see steel tools and weapons. Steel is a very strong material, but it takes a few separate steps to craft. In this guide, we are going to take a look at how to make steel, as well as what you can do with it.
It's important to know that prior to making steel, you will need to be level 20. Although steel tools are technically on the second tier, which requires level ten, you will need equipment that unlocks on the third tier. Equipment Needed To Make Steel
Before you make steel, you will need a concrete furnace and a mortar and pestle. Additionally, to make steel tools, you will need an anvil bench. Below, you can find the required materials for each item.

How To Make Iron
Above, you may have noticed that iron is required to make both the concrete furnace and the anvil bench. Iron is a simple metal that can be made by smelting two iron ores in a stone furnace. Doing so will produce one iron ingot.
Iron ore is a common resource and can be found inside caves, as well as along rocky cliff faces. To make a stone furnace to craft iron ingots, you will need the following materials.
- 4 Sticks
- 12 Wood
- 80 Stone
- 12 Leather
Making Steel
Now that you have a concrete furnace and iron, it's time to make steel. Below, you can check out all the steps to making one steel ingot.
- Gather at least six iron ore. You can either refine this into ingots or leave them are raw ore.
- Combine the three iron ingots (or six iron ore) and one coal ore in the mortar and pestle. This will create one steel bloom.
- Smelt the steel bloom at the concrete furnace to create one steel ingot.
After completing these steps, you will have one steel ingot. Overall, one steel ingot is made from six iron ore and one piece of coal. The blueprint is simple to make; the hardest part is building the required pieces of equipment.
