There are numerous status effects that can influence your mission in Icarus. While some of these effects are beneficial, many are a hindrance, and can slowly lead to your death. In this guide, we are going to go over every status effect and what it does.

Although many effects are quite unfortunate, there are many ways to prevent them. For example, dysentery may occur if you drink water directly from a stream or lake. To prevent this, you can unlock technology to create clean water. This applies to other negative effects as well; with the right technology, you can combat just about anything.

Food Effects

Eating food will provide you with a small buff in addition to replenishing your health. Food can be eaten directly after harvesting it, but you can also cook food with a campfire, firepit, or Potbelly Stove.

Below, you can find each effect that different types of food will provide.

  • +15 health regeneration per minute
  • +75 maximum stamina
  • +100 maximum health
  • Consumes 1 space in stomach

Cooked Meat

  • +10 health regeneration per minute
  • +75 maximum stamina
  • +100 maximum health
  • Consumes 1 space in stomach

Grilled Pumpkin

  • +75 maximum stamina
  • Consumes 1 space in stomach

Melon

  • +50 maximum stamina
  • -10% oxygen consumption
  • Consumes 1 space in stomach

Roasted Squash

  • +75 maximum stamina
  • +5% melee damage
  • Consumes 1 space in stomach

Raw Food

  • +10% maximum health
  • Consumes 1 space in stomach
  • This comes from raw vegetables, not meat and fish

Positive Status Effects

  • +10% movement speed
  • -20% stamina consumed
  • -15% perceived threat while in stealth mode
  • Die
    • For 30 seconds after death, this effect will occur, allowing you to quickly retrieve your lost items

Emergency Rations

  • +10% stamina regeneration
  • +10% health regeneration
  • -10% water consumption
  • -10% food consumption
  • -10% oxygen consumption
  • Eat an MRE

Well Rested

  • +10% maximum health
  • +10% health regeneration
  • +5 maximum stamina
  • +5% stamina regeneration
  • -5% food consumption
  • -5% water consumption
  • Sleep or rest in a bed

Warm and Cozy

  • +50% stamina regeneration
  • +50% health regeneration
  • +10% experience gained
  • +10% heat resistance
  • Stand near a source of heat
    • Fireplace
    • Firepit
    • Potbelly Stove

Negative Status Effects

Next, we have negative status effects. Overall, you should aim to not have these effects applied to you. A majority of these effects can be prevented or treated with the right technology, so don't forget to use your technology points to unlock new blueprints as you level up.

  • -50% weight capacity
  • Falling a large distance
    • You can remove this effect with a Splint

Cold

  • -25% health regeneration
  • -25% stamina regeneration
  • -10% water consumption
  • Your body temperature has dropped
    • You can remove this effect by moving somewhere warm

Contusion

  • -25% experience gained
  • -20% movement speed
  • Something landed on your head
    • You can either wait this effect out, or treat it with Blood Thinning Paste

Deep Wound

  • -25% maximum health
  • -25% maximum stamina
  • -95% health regeneration
  • You have taken serious damage from an attack
    • You can remove this effect with a Suture Kit

Dehydrated

  • +2 thirst level
  • stamina regeneration delay
  • -50% stamina regneration
  • -2 damage per tick
  • Your water meter is at 0
    • Drink water quickly

Disoriented

  • -10% experience gained
  • Oxygen meter is below 10%
    • You can remove this effect by replenishing your oxygen

Dysentery

  • -50% nutrition from food
  • You have drunk water that is not clean
    • You can remove this effect by waiting it out or using an Anti-Parasitic Paste

Famished

  • +2 thirst level
  • 2 damage per tick
  • Your food meter is at 0
    • Find food and eat

Festering Wound

  • -25% maximum health
  • -25% maximum stamina
  • +10% water consumption
  • -95% health regeneration
  • -5% experience gained
  • This happens if a deep wound is left untreated
    • You can remove this effect by using an Anti-Parasitic Paste

Frosty

  • -15% movement speed
  • -10% stamina regeneration
  • Your temperature gauge has remained low for a while
    • You can remove this effect by moving to a warm area or using Heat Bandages

Heavy

  • -70% movement speed
  • You are holding too many things
    • Drop some items

Hungry

  • +1 thirst level
  • Your food level is lower than 7%
    • Find food and eat

Hypothermia

  • -50% maximum stamina
  • -50% stamina regenreation
  • +30% food consumption
  • -10% water consumption
  • -10% movement speed
  • 2 damage per tick
  • You have been in the cold for too long
    • You can remove this effect by entering into a warm area or using a Heat Bandage

Light Desert Exposure

  • -20% movement speed
  • Your exposure bar is slightly filled due to the weather in the Desert
    • Seek Shelter

Medium Desert Exposure

  • -40% movement speed
  • -20% heat resistance
  • Your exposure bar is partially filled (around half) due to the weather in the Desert
    • Seek Shelter

Heavy Desert Exposure

  • -60% movement speed
  • -30% heat resistance
  • 10 damage per tick
  • Your exposure bar has filled completely due to the weather in the Desert
    • Seek shelter immediately

Light Exposure

  • -20% movement speed
  • You have been exposed to weather (excluding Desert weather)
    • Seek shelter

Medium Exposure

  • -40% movement speed
  • You have been exposed to weather for a prolonged amount of time (excluding Desert weather)
    • Seek Shelter

Overheating

  • +50% water consumption
  • +10% stamina consumption
  • Your temperature gauge has been in the red for a little too long
    • Go to a cooler area or drink water

On Fire

  • 8-11 damage per tick
  • +100% water consumption
  • You are too close to an open flame
    • You can remove this effect by entering water
    • If you are playing with others, someone can use a Fire Whacker on you

Pneumonia

  • -50% health regeneration
  • -50% maximum stamina
  • -10% experience gained
  • You have been underground too long
    • Head back to the surface

Poison

  • -10 movement speed
  • 1 damage per tick
  • You have been attacked by an animal that deals poison damage
    • You can remove this effect with Anti-Poison Paste

Suffocation

  • -50% maximum stamina
  • -20% experience gained
  • 6 damage per tick
  • Your oxygen meter is at 0
    • Replenish your oxygen quickly

Thirsty

  • +1 thirst level
  • -25% stamina regeneration
  • Your water meter is below 7%
    • Drink water quickly

Underground

  • -50% health regeneration
  • -25% water consumption
  • -33% maximum stamina
  • chance of Pneumonia
  • You are currently underground or in a cave
    • You can remove this effect by heading to the surface

Wound

  • -80% health regeneration
  • You have taken a bit of damage from an attack
    • You can remove this effect with a Bandage

Wet

  • -20% cold resistance
  • You are fully submerged in water
    • Leave the water

Neutral Status Effects

That's every status effect in the game. As you can see, there are way more negative status effects than positive ones. This is because Icarus is a dangerous planet filled with many things that can kill you if you are not being careful enough.
