Publisher Toadman Interactive has finally given us a look at I.G.I. Origins with a new teaser trailer. A prequel/reboot to the 2000 Eidos Interactive title Project I.G.I., Toadman originally announced this earlier in the year with only a scant few details. While this latest trailer doesn't unveil a whole lot, it's certainly a decent look at how Origins is shaping up.

It's tough to discern if there is any actual gameplay in here since everything looks pre-rendered. At the very least, we get confirmation that Origins will be retaining its Cold War-style look and put a heavy emphasis on stealth gameplay. The original game was known for its long draw distances and fairly advanced sniping gameplay, even if everything else didn't shape up well.

Utilizing the power of modern technology, it's probably smart to expect larger environments and a sandbox-like structure to missions. Project I.G.I. was a little ahead of the curve back in the day, so it only makes sense that this latest installment will finally make good on the promise the original hinted at.

Robin Flodin, CEO of Toadman, said in a press release, "The teams at Toadman and Antimatter has fond memories of playing the original games back in the day. We are very happy to bring take the franchise to the next level, and it's a perfect fit for the talented guys at Antimatter Games, a key studio in the Toadman group."

It's honestly kind of wholesome that a team out there has nostalgia for a game like Project I.G.I. The original didn't have a warm reception upon release and has basically faded into obscurity over the years. Eidos was priming this to be its de facto stealth series before it stumbled upon Hitman: Codename 47. The idea was sound, but the technology of the day just did not result in a quality title. This might be the first time that I.G.I. generates a quality experience.

Currently, Toadman is aiming for a 2021 release date with I.G.I. Origins on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The game is currently available on the Steam store for users to wishlist. That's a solid indicator that PC players won't have to grab this from the Epic Games Store.
