Ikonei Island: An Earthlock Adventure is currently in Early Access on Steam and as such, the content is subject to change. We will update these articles as required.

Switching Between Characters

While playing Ikonei Island, you will be able to switch between four different characters; Shawn, Jacob, Eva, and Hedda. From the map, you can freely switch between them, but it's a good idea to have a 'main' character. By this, we mean having a character that you primarily use for basic crafting and exploring.

For example, you can choose to play as Eva for a majority of the time, but designate your farming tasks to Hedda. Whenever you need to do a bit of farming and harvesting, you can easily switch to Hedda. In this situation, it's a good idea to have Hedda standing near your farmland.

Overall, try to designate characters to specific roles; this will also make the search for items go by quicker; if Hedda is 'in charge' of farming, then she will be holding seeds and farming materials.

Using Characters As Inventory

This point goes hand in hand with the previous one. In addition to playing as all four characters, you can use them for storage. With your selected character, all you need to do is approach someone else and begin to trade. This will open up an inventory menu that allows you to place items into their 'chest'.

We recommend sorting your items by character. For example, you can designate Jacob as the one to hold items related to smelting. This allows you to easily go find him and get the materials that you need.

Bonding With Creatures

There is a variety of creatures that you will come in contact with while exploring Ikonei Island. Some of these creatures can be bonded with; this allows you to essentially become them and remove objects that you couldn't previously move.

Some objects can easily be removed right after you get a creature, but other items may require a higher 'star' rating. This is used to signify how strong the bond between you and a creature is. For example, when you first bond with a Longhorn, they will have one star and can break smaller rocks.

Over time, you can increase this rating to two stars; this will change the appearance of the Longhorn and allow them to break larger objects. It's important to tend to the needs of your creatures so you can eventually get to new places.

Selling Dubloons

Dubloons can be found within scrap piles around the map. These are not used in crafting; instead, you will be able to sell them to earn Frogboy Coins. We recommend selling all the Dubloons you come across, so you can earn enough Frogboy Coins to buy new objects from vendors on the island.

Within the main plaza, you can find a Frogboy dropbox. Here, you can place any item that you want to sell; at 6 am, all the items inside the box will covert to Frogboy Coins automatically.

Listen To The Music

The music in Ikonei Island is beautiful, but it plays an important part in exploration as well. When you come across a pirate outpost, you will see several pirates bouncing around with a line in the direction that they are facing. Overall, your goal is to make it to a cannon and shoot down the pirate on the raised platform.

Rather than heading into the outpost and battling, you will need to dodge these lines and stay out of sight. The very first outpost that you clear will be fairly easy, but as you find more, the path will become more complex. This is where the music comes into play.

The bouncing pirates will change direction in time with music, regardless of how slow or fast it is. This means that you can base your movement on the music as well, to avoid being spotted.

Checking Crafting Requirements

From the map, you will be able to check the materials needed to perform certain repairs and upgrades. Rather than heading to a broken bridge on the other side of the island to check what you need, you can just pull up your menu and gather the necessary materials while you are still at your main base.

Decorate Your Home

Lastly, don't forget to decorate! As you play, you will unlock new recipes ranging from crafting equipment to small flower vases. While exploring the island can be thrilling, don't forget to add your personal touch. Decorations can be placed pretty much everywhere you look, you can even place small objects on the wooden beams of existing structures.

Decorations can also be purchased from vendors, so be sure to pay them a visit whenever you are nearby; each vendor will have daily specials, and you may find a new item that would look perfect on the island.
