NetherRealm Studios has released a new DLC trailer for Injustice 2 featuring Sub-Zero from the Mortal Kombat games. He is officially a playable character, making it the second time the Injustice series has had a game crossover character. Previously, in Injustice: Gods Among Us, Scorpion was a playable character, also from Mortal Kombat. In the gameplay trailer, which focuses on Sub-Zero and his abilities as "grandmaster of the Lin Kuei," he is seen using his Super, a mid-air freezing move followed an icy hammer, and then a flurry of deadly icicles. It is worth pointing out that both Mortal Kombat and Injustice games are currently developed by NetherRealm studios.

In the trailer, he is seen battling Batman, Wonder Woman, and Super Man. The character will be added to Injustice 2 in Fighter Pack Season 1, which will arrive later next month. Besides just Sub-Zero, the Fighter Pack will also include DC favourites like Red Hood and Starfire. There is a precedent for Sub-Zero being involved in the DC's video game universe, as he was playable in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe back in 2008.

Starfire alongside the Red Hood and Sub-Zero in Injustice 2

Sub-Zero is considered a fan favourite in the Mortal Kombat universe, hence his playability here. Alongside other favourites such as Scorpion, they are both essentially the mascots fro the franchise. Sub-Zero is the only character who has appeared in every single Mortal Kombat title, underscoring his popularity. There are six more DLC heroes in the works besides Red hood, Starfire and Sub-Zero - which will likely go live as part of the games Ultimate Edition, a $99, and they are already being speculated upon. Two of these are known - Mortal Kombat's Raiden, and Black Manta, Aquaman's long time nemesis.

The original Injustice: Gods Among Us, also had six DLC playable heroes. They were Martian Manhunter, Batgirl, Lobo, Scorpion, Zatanna, and Zod. Given that both Sub-Zero and Red Hood got their own DLC trailers, it is likely that Starfire will get her own too, in the coming weeks leading up to mid-July, when the first DLC is set to roll out.

Injustice 2 is available for the Xbox one and the PlayStation 4.
