The results are in for the Independent Games Festival this year. While two games, Inscryption and Unpacking, have clearly taken the lead in terms of nominations, there are plenty of other stand outs including Loop Hero, Sable, Cruelty Squad, and Overboard!

The festival was founded in 1998 to celebrate independent developers. Winners are announced every year at the Game Developers Conference which will be taking place between March 21 and 25 this time around. There will be $50,000 in prizes up for grabs.

The festival helps to highlight smaller games in contrast to many other awards ceremonies which favor the biggest releases. Independent developers get a little bit of exposure for their game and some well deserved recognition for their artistic achievements. And these are often considerable. Inscryption and Unpacking in particular have both been highly acclaimed for their numerous innovations.
