Gaming insider Jeff Grubb has suggested that a PlayStation Showcase could happen towards the end of May, or at least before Summer Game Fest.

Not counting State of Play showcases, which are usually smaller and focused on one game, it's been some time since we last had a big showcase of what PlayStation has in store for us in the coming years. The last showcase was towards the end of 2021 and gave us our first look at God of War Ragnarok, alongside the reveal of the Knights of the Old Republic remake, alongside a few other surprises.

We've not heard anything about a new PlayStation Showcase in some time, but recent rumours have suggested that it could be coming sooner than we think and should be happening before Summer Game Fest. This rumour comes courtesy of GamesBeat's Jeff Grubb, who said in a recent episode of Games Mess Mornings that he expects the showcase to happen in May, or at least before Summer Game Fest, which is scheduled for June 8.

While talking about upcoming gaming events, Grubb said, "Now before Summer Game Fest, what I have listed here, The PlayStation Showcase, still hear that's coming, I'd probably safely say that's May at this point, but in general I'm going to continue saying before Summer Game Fest because that's the safest way of doing it. But yes, May, maybe very very early June, that seems like the right time to get that PlayStation showcase."

Although the last PlayStation Showcase was in September, it'd make more sense for PlayStation to host it a little earlier this year, as one of its major releases of 2023, Spider-Man 2, is seemingly targeting September as its release month. We've yet to see anything major on the game, so it'd make sense that Sony includes it as one of the focuses of the showcase, similar to what it previously did with God of War Ragnarok.

Interestingly, this lines up with another recent rumour that suggested that we might be getting a Mortal Kombat 12 reveal in May. Just a few days ago, Windows Central's Jez Corden suggested that we'd be hearing more about the game "next month", which would mean May. Considering the size of Mortal Kombat 12, it would make sense if it featured as one of the big surprises at the showcase.

This was then backed up by two other insiders, Shpeshal Nick and Rand al Thor, who, as reported by Twisted Voxel, recently spoke about the topic on the XboxEra Podcast. On the show, Shpeshal Nick revealed that he's heard that Mortal Kombat 12 is being announced at the next PlayStation Showcase event and that Sony will likely have the marketing rights to the game. All of this seems to back up not only that a PlayStation Showcase is happening, but that it'll be where Mortal Kombat 12 is revealed.
