Insomniac Games, the developer behind Ratchet & Clank and Marvel's Spider-Man, has been Tweeting a lot about one of its other franchises: Resistance. The Resistance series began in 2006, and its final main entry was released in 2011.

Resistance: Fall of Man was the first game in the series, and a launch title for the PlayStation 3. It might be best remembered for its somewhat iconic box art of an alien skull wearing a military helmet. The story followed resistance sergeant Nathan Hale in a United Kingdom overrun by aliens called Chimera. The second main game, simply titled Resistance 2, followed Nathan once again, and featured a tragic end to his story. Resistance 3 featured a new protagonist, and with some help along the way, paved the way for the Chimera's defeat. There were also two spin-off titles.

Resistance is a first-person shooter series. While not reinventing the genre, many fans and critics agree the gameplay was very solid. The trilogy was well received.  Interestingly, the franchise was brought up in a 2018 interview. When asked about the possibility of Resistance 4 (via Finder), Insomniac Games' community director James Stevenson said, "...never say never, it’s just that we have no plans to make another Resistance game in the future." Could things be about to change?

Seemingly out of nowhere, Insomniac Games has been Tweeting a lot about the Resistance series. While this may not mean anything, fans are taking notice and speculating about a new Resistance title or trilogy remaster.

Of course, there is no confirmation of any kind for a Resistance announcement. It is interesting, though, that the company has made a number of Tweets to the series. A new installment, whether it be a Resistance 4 or reboot for the PlayStation 5 next year, would make sense. The games are also old enough that a number of people missed out on them, so a remaster would also make sense.

Although not widely popular in comparison to other PlayStation franchises, Resistance nonetheless has a fanbase. The series provided good level design, horror, and intense action. The main Resistance games hold up well, delivering the aspects first-person shooter fans enjoy. It remains to be seen if Insomniac will indeed give fans a new Resistance game, or port the trilogy for new fans. Hopefully, something will be announced.
