It’s been nearly 20 years since the last Dino Crisis game was released (Dino Crisis 3, 2003), with fans of the survival horror franchise clamoring for some sort of remake or remaster, especially with the release of the next-gen consoles. Fans’ prayers may have been answered, as Instinction, an upcoming title from Hashbane Interactive, looks to fill the gaping hole in the dinosaur survival horror genre.

Instinction is a semi-open world adventure that will feature exploration of natural locations, puzzles, missions, and immersive combat against terrifying prehistoric creatures, dinosaurs. The game unabashedly touts a motto of being the spiritual successor to the Dino Crisis series for the modern gaming era, taking “advantage of adaptive trigger and haptic feedback support” from the next-gen consoles.

A teaser trailer was posted to YouTube over the weekend, showing off the title screen, a loading screen, and a few seconds of gameplay, which ultimately didn’t reveal much about the game, if anything

What we do know is that Instinction will feature interchangeable first and third-person perspectives as they journey through the dangerous prehistoric world discovering secrets and trying to stay alive - a feat that will be easier said than done. As players uncover the secrets of the world and begin to understand why they are there, they’ll “begin to descend into inner self-doubt that will test their resolve, relationships and push them to the darkest corners of their minds.” Nothing like losing your mind and battling your inner demons while fending off dinosaurs, right?

Thankfully, you won’t necessarily have to take on the terror alone, as Instinction will support both solo and co-op gameplay. You’ll also be able to upgrade and customize your weapons along the way with various skins and attachments.

“We wanted what many gamers wanted, a modern take on an age-old cult classic, a dinosaur survival game with modern mechanics and a compelling story, after 20 years waiting we had no choice but to make one ourselves, and it had to be amazing so as to pay homage to the original, with full mod support for the community,” the studio stated in a press release.

Despite not knowing much more about Instinction, it looks beautiful; next-gen ready. Is it going to hit the mark with fans as a spiritual successor to Dino Crisis? Maybe. We’ll hopefully find out next year, though, as “Dino Crisis 2022” was the subject line of the press email that was sent, indicating a tentative 2022 release.
