IXION – formerly known as Project Stanford – was officially revealed during today’s PC Gaming Show. The upcoming title is being developed by the team behind 2018’s Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus, and it will take you to an unforgiving world where mankind is trying to escape a dying Earth.

Combining city building, survival elements, and exploration, IXION will let you manage a space station’s infrastructure as you explore various solar systems and try to keep your crew alive. You’ll be able to mine resources, trade with other characters, and research new technologies to tilt the odds in your favor. The announcement trailer didn’t show off much gameplay, but it did provide us with a release date of 2022.

Christian Woolford, junior project manager at Kasedo Games, gave fans a brief overview of IXION’s story – and a closer look at what happened to Earth and why its inhabitants are now roaming the galaxy:

"Just imagine all the problems on Earth; climate-wise, political, food and water shortages, have just been extrapolated to their worst over the next decade or three, and that’s where the game starts,” Woolford said. “DOLOS has been involved with the support offered through some of these crises, and when the stars become the only viable option to find hope for survival, they are amongst the factions leading the way in this pursuit.

“Creating many innovative technologies, the VOHLE engine is amongst them, a propulsion system, capable of taking the Tiqqun space station to new solar systems, expanding the search net dramatically. But will the first test of this engine be successful? And if not, what will the consequence be? For both those on the station, and those back on Earth.”

IXION is expected to launch in 2022 and will be available on Steam.
