Jack Black has been selected to voice Claptrap in the upcoming Borderlands movie. The cast includes other high-profile names such as Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Hart, and Cate Blanchett.

Eli Roth will be directing the Lionsgate film, with Randy Pitchford from Gearbox working as executive producer alongside Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick. A release date is yet to be announced as the team works to finalize its casting list.

“I am so excited to reunite with Jack, this time in the recording booth,” Roth said. “Claptrap is the funniest character in the game, and Jack is perfect to bring him to the big screen.” Meanwhile, Lionsgate president Nathan Kahane said that Black was a "no-brainer" for the role.

“We couldn’t have been more in sync with our filmmakers and casting executives as we approached this role,” said Kahane. “Everyone who’s ever played the game knows Jack is perfect for this part. We’re thrilled he will add his endless comic energy and voice to our film — he’ll bring so much to the movie.”

While Black is a perfect fit for Claptrap, the same can also be said of Jamie Lee Curtis as Patricia Tannis. Tannis is an eccentric archaeologist in Borderlands, and Curtis' performance in films such as Knives Out and A Fish Called Wanda proves she's the perfect pick for the job. Meanwhile, Kevin Hart will be stepping into the shoes of Roland, while Cate Blanchett will play Lilith.

Borderlands 3 continues to put up impressive numbers, and Gearbox recently revealed the next expansion, Director's Cut, will launch on March 18. Included in the Director's Cut are several murder-mystery missions and a challenging new raid boss – Hemovorous the Invincible.  Tales from the Borderlands is also making a comeback, as the title is finally returning to digital storefronts after a long hiatus. The game includes all five chapters in one easy to access bundle and will be available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Although the Borderlands movie is yet to get a release date, we're curious to see which high-profile name is added to its roster next.
