Co-founder and former Chief Executive Officer at Twitter Jack Dorsey recently took to the social media platform to apologize for the ongoing struggles being faced by workers at the company. Dorsey announced his departure from Twitter on November 29, 2021 after handing over the reins to Chief Technology Officer Parag Agrawal who took over as CEO. The executive left the board of directors in May, 2022 following the sale to Elon Musk.“Folks at Twitter past and present are strong and resilient,” Dorsey remarked. “They will always find a way no matter how difficult the moment. I realize many are angry with me. I own the responsibility for why everyone is in this situation. I grew the company size too quickly. I apologize for that.”Dorsey went on to say that “I am grateful for and love everyone who has ever worked on Twitter. I don't expect that to be mutual in this moment… or ever… and I understand.”This comes in the wake of news that Musk plans to initiate a mass layoff at Twitter, shedding some 3,700 employees in the process. This number in fact represents about half the company. Musk has already fired the board of directors along with several key executives including Vijaya Gadde who previously made headlines for banning the former President of the United States Donald Trump.
The layoffs have already resulted in legal action as large companies are required to provide workers with at least 60 days of advance notice prior to a mass layoff. “We filed this lawsuit tonight in an attempt to make sure that employees are aware that they should not sign away their rights and that they have an avenue for pursuing their rights,” attorney Shannon Liss-Riordan explained.
