Jackbox Games, the creators behind the popular smartphone-controlled party games, announced today that Jackbox Party Pack 8 will be out next month. The eighth installment was first announced back in March.

The new collection of trivia and party games will launch on October 14 for PS5, Xbox Series X and S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Jackbox Party Pack 8 will have five new games, including a sequel to the popular Drawful series.

A new trailer and blog post for the new pack offers details for the five games.

  • Job Job: A twisted interview game where you use other players’ answers to score the job. Who knew getting a job could be fun AND chaotic? (3-10 players)
  • The Poll Mine: Jackbox’s very first head-to-head team game! Trapped in a magical mine with no way out, try to correctly rank your group’s poll opinions and escape. (2-10 players)
  • Drawful: Animate: This exciting new spin on the classic Drawful **introduces animated gifs that you can create. Watch out for those tricky decoys! (3-10 players)
  • The Wheel of Enormous Proportions: The ultimate game of trivia and chance. Doesn’t everyone love a game with a giant, shiny, spinning wheel? (4-8 players)
  • Weapons Drawn: The game where trust is nonexistent. Can you hide your murders while solving others? Get ready to point those fingers because everyone but you did it! (4-8 players)

The most exciting new game here for fans of the party game series is likely Drawful: Animate, which seems to take the same concept of the original games — think Pictionary with prompts from your friends — with the added capability of drawing multiple images that play in a sequence. This looks like it could be used to make crude animations or even present a micro-storyboard. The potential seems vast — provided you're up for drawing out images on your phone or tablet.

As the new pack's name would imply, Jackbox Games has a catalog of seven other excellent packs of multiplayer games. Besides watching a screen, you interact with the game mostly through a browser on your phone, so every game is easy to set up, and you can play both locally or over a video call. While there are usually designated must-have games from each pack, every collection has a healthy spread of trivia, creation, and comedy games, so it's hard to go wrong with buying any single one.
