Naughty Dog has shared the original teaser trailer for Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy to celebrate the game's 20th anniversary.

Today marks the 20th anniversary of Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy's release in 2001 and, even though we haven't seen the pair appear in their own game since Jak X, the legacy they've left is being celebrated by their original developers, Naughty Dog.

To mark the occasion, Naughty Dog has shared the original teaser for The Precursor Legacy, which the team showed in May of 2001. The teaser shows off several areas for the game, which all look like they do in the final game, before revealing the game's release date and saying, "The Legacy Begins". The trailer then ends by showing Jak and Daxter, who are both hidden in the dark.

Considering the game would come out a little more than six months later, it's interesting to note that the first time it was shown off, both of its main characters were hidden away. There's no mention of the game's name in the teaser either which is a far cry from how games are marketed nowadays.

The description for the trailer says, "Today, Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy hits its 20-year release anniversary. To celebrate, we're sharing this teaser for the then-unreleased title. The date, May 17, 2001, was the day that we announced Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy to the world."

Alongside the trailer being reposted, PlayStation also celebrated the anniversary with a blog post highlighting some concept art and comments from Naughty Dog developers and some comments from other studios like Insomniac Games, Team Asobi, and Bend Studio.

Evan Wells, Naughty Dog's co-president, said, "The biggest thing I learned was the challenge of designing an open-world game without using load times! We set out from the start to design a world and not levels like we were used to coming from Crash, and we made it a rule that if you could see it you could walk (or boat or fly!) to it".
