There’s a certain Rocket Launcher that was so dominant in Destiny 1 that players have been begging for Bungie to bring it back ever since Destiny 2 began. This Exotic Rocket Launcher is the one and only Gjallarhorn.

Gjallarhorn was so strong in the first year of Destiny 1 that it was often considered a requirement for higher-level activities. It's Wolfpack Rounds perk fired multiple tracking rockets that exploded with cluster munitions upon detonation, doing massive damage to both single targets and over a very wide area.

Its prevalence in Destiny 1 is likely why Bungie has been hesitant to bring this Exotic weapon back but to mark Bungie’s 30th anniversary, they’re making a special exception for old Gally.

Season of the Lost will be an extra-long season, so to break things up, Destiny 2 will be the site of Bungie’s 30th-anniversary celebration, an end-of-year event for all Destiny 2 players. This event will bring a brand new six-player matchmade activity called Dares of Eternity, which will have something to do with The Nine. It’ll also bring back a Hand Cannon and Sniper Rifle from Destiny 1.

But the real prize lies in the 30th Anniversary dungeon, an all-new location in the Cosmodrome. At the end of this new dungeon lies Gjallarhorn reborn, which has been “carefully updated” for Destiny 2’s Sandbox.

This likely means it won’t be quite as powerful as Guardians remember, but that’s unlikely to stop them from storming the Cosmodrome in December. What might stop them is a $25 paywall. While the six-player event will be free to all, the Dungeon and Gjallarhorn Rocket Launcher requires players to purchase the 30th Anniversary Pack, which is being billed as a mini-season with some extra built-in cosmetics such as Thorn-themed armor.

In addition, Bungie’s 30th Anniversary will also bring weapons and ornaments from Bungie’s past games, such as the Claymore from Myth. Oni, Halo, and Marathon are also looking to be represented somehow, either in Destiny 2 as weapon ornaments or via real-life merch.

Bungie’s 30th Anniversary arrives in December at the end of Season of the Lost.
