Jane Foster's Mighty Thor comes to Square Enix's Marvel's Avengers in a free update today, bringing the roster to 11 playable heroes - if we include the PlayStation- exclusive character Spider-Man - for the action RPG.

How will Jane play? As the Mighty Thor she has the strength and power like the God of Thunder you'd expect. She'll also be the third flying warrior added to the mix, for new team compositions and co-op play, in addition to Iron Man and Thor Odinson.

"In Marvel's Avengers Jane is torn from an alternate timeline through a rift in space-time caused by Tachyon Anomalies", Jane's story is described on the PlayStation Blog. "In her original timeline, Jane became the Goddess of Thunder when she took up the mantle from Thor, who in his gried gave up Mjolnir after the A-Day tragedy".

Jane Foster is the first new hero added to the game since Spider-Man in November last year. Other heroes that were added as DLC include Black Panther and Hawkeyes I and II (Kate Bishop).

Voiced by Zehra Fazal, who has credits on various TV series and video games, Marvel's Avengers' Jane Foster/Mighty Thor will have collectable intel documents and character banter. In addition her story will be told through an electric in-game animatic Marvel's Avengers - The Mighty Thor: Out of Time, which is illustrated by veteran Marvel artist Takeshi Miyazawa.

Her attacks include the intrisic abilities All-Mother's Blessing and new overcharge God Tempest. For sure, Mjolnir is involved. God Tempest is unleashed after charging, and it increases ranged hammer damage and creates shockwaves with every hit.

Crystal Dynamics, the game's developer, said it's adding two new challenges "as part of an ambition to advance our narrative through hero and villain-centric content". It's certainly neat timing, of course, since Natalie Portman's Jane Foster will be appearing as Thor in the upcoming MCU movie Thor: Love and Thunder, which is releasing next week. Meanwhile, you can play as the Mighty Thor in Marvel's Avengers in the free 2.5 patch.
