Kirby fans have pepped up ever since the trailer for the new game was revealed. Nintendo showed off Kirby and The Forgotten Land in a brand-new trailer recently along with dropping the launch date. But in a Japanese Nintendo magazine, it's been hinted that perhaps we might be expecting a further Kirby game.
The magazine in question is the January 2022 edition of Nintendo Dream, a Japanese publication dedicated to all things Nintendo, and which was helpfully translated by Dededaio on Twitter (thanks, VGC).
The announcement in the magazine reads: "New issue will release it on Monday, February 21. In addition to detailed news about Kirby and The Forgotten Land, we've also included a new game that we didn't expect! I have a feeling that a new title will be announced".
This 'new game' could be referring to an unannounced title completely unrelated to Kirby, or it could refer to an additional forthcoming Kirby game. While two mainline Kirby games launching in the same year would be a tad unusual, the series has seen plenty of offshoots. For example, since the last mainline game, Kirby Star Allies, in 2018, there have been a few spin-offs such as Super Kirby Clash, Kirby Air Ride, and Kirby's Blowout Blast.
This year does mark the 30th anniversary of Kirby and Nintendo has informed fans to expect more activity and news regarding the fluffy pink mascot.
The upcoming Kirby and The Forgotten Land looks to be the most ambitious Kirby game to date. Nintendo eShop listings have shown that The Forgotten Land will be weighing in at a hefty file size for a Switch first-party title. It seems like players will need 5.8 GB of storage space for the digital download, and this makes the forthcoming title bigger than every other Kirby game to date. For comparison's sake, Super Mario Odyssey, a game that's similar to Forgotten Land in size and presentation, is around 5.6 GB.
The new Kirby game will be a 3D platformer and will feature old and new abilities for the beloved character. Kirby and The Forgotten Land is due to launch on Nintendo Switch on March 23 - while for any new announcements regarding Kirby, keep up to date at TheGamer.
