For kids of the 90s, Activision's Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series was like a religion. Introducing millions to the wacky world of pro skating while also creating a deliciously addictive score attack title, the early titles in the series had a profound impact on the youth culture of the day. It also revitalized the skate scene and shot it into popular culture practically overnight. Many have been wanting a sequel to the series and it seems something is on the horizon.
Take everything here with a grain of salt, but professional skater Jason Dill was recently interviewed by "The Nine Club" on YouTube and he openly stated that a new Tony Hawk's game was in development. "Did you guys know that there's a new Tony Hawk Pro Skateboarder coming out in 2020," Dill brazenly stated, likely making someone at Activision explode in anger.
Normally this would just be filed under the rumor category, but it's surprisingly not the first time anyone has talked about a Tony Hawk's game coming out this year. Back in March, indie band The Death Set posted on Facebook that it had recorded a few songs for a 2020 Tony Hawk's game, igniting speculation from fans about what is coming next.
If that wasn't enough good news for you, Dill also mentioned that EA is looking at bringing Skate 3 to mobile devices. "I got a call from the EA people about 10 months ago, and they said, 'Hey, we want to talk about the Skate game,'" Dill described. "I said, oh that's fine. [They] said, basically, 'Hey Jason, we wanna do a mobile version of Skate 3.' I wrote back, and I said, 'What else?' She wrote back, 'No, that's it.'"
Seemingly out of frustration, Dill then told EA to drop the mobile port and work on Skate 4. "No one wants your stupid mobile version of Skate 3. Make Skate-fucking-4 already, cause, like, just do it. Just make the game and participate again," Dill said.
Again, these comments don't outright confirm anything since they are coming from a secondary source. I do believe Dill has been in talks with both Activision and EA about potential sequels and spin-offs, but until either publisher is willing to spill the beans, this is just hearsay. If you want to live with some hope today, though, then these words should be good enough for now.
