Most fans were expecting the Jay and Silent Bob Reboot Trailer to drop at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend. Kevin Smith, the film's writer and director, traditionally takes over Hall H on the Saturday evening and this year is no exception. However, Smith has decided to drop the trailer early.

In a post on Twitter, Smith told fans that he wasn’t going to make them wait until Saturday night for the much-anticipated trailer and has released it now.

The trailer starts in typical Kevin Smith style, with nudity, drug references and bad language from the outset. You can watch it below, just make sure the kids are out of the room and you aren’t at work.

Based on previous interviews with Smith, we know that the premise of the movie is very similar to Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Instead of following the stoner duo as they go to Hollywood to stop a Bluntman and Chronic movie being made, they are going to Hollywood to stop a Bluntman and Chronic Reboot from being made.

Fans of Smith’s work will spot that some scenes are almost entirely identical to the original, including Brodie’s classic “don’t say you don’t know” speech. The trailer also features a range of roles and cameos from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back cast members.

Jason Lee makes a return as Brodie, the comic book “tracer,” while Shannon Elizabeth’s Justice is also back, with a surprise for Jay. The trailer even includes a sneak peek at an appearance from Matt Damon, who appeared in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back alongside Ben Affleck, who we also see briefly. Original Bluntman and Chronic actors, Jason Biggs and James Van Der Beek, also appear in the star-studded trailer.

Kevin’s daughter, Harley Quinn Smith, appears to play a prominent role alongside her dad as Silent Bob, and Jason Mewes who plays Jay.

Affleck’s appearance is the biggest surprise of the trailer. The pair were close friends but fell out of touch a few years ago. After Affleck posted the phrase “Snoochie Boochies” on Smith’s Twitter yesterday rumors of a truce started to spread.

Late last year Smith took the blame for the fallout in a post on Twitter.  It’s unknown as to whether this apology was the start of a bridge building process but it appears that the two former friends may be rekindling their relationship.

Jay and Silent Bob Reboot will hit cinemas this fall and the trailer promotes an accompanying tour, where you can watch the movie followed by a Q&A with Smith and Mewes. Expect more details to emerge after Smith’s Comic-Con panel on Saturday night.
