Last year, Jim Purvis put together a little mod that lets you dive into the hell that is post-Brexit Britain, now ravaged by a cyborg demon Thatcher. It's up to you to put her and her minions out of their misery. It's no surprise that in a country rife with political conflict, this mod went viral, and now it's even caught the attention of former labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.Purvis took an all-new arcade edition of Thatcher's Techbase to The World Transformed in Liverpool, letting people give it a go on the event floor. The World Transformed, for context, is a "Festival of radical politics, art and culture... bringing voices across the entire left to strategies, organise and dance!" That's why Corbyn was in attendance.Thatcher's Techbase was, expectedly, a hit, letting leftists in attendance take out their frustration on a Thatcher hell-bent on crawling out of... well, Hell. Corbyn popped by at one point and Purvis snapped a couple of pics of him playing the game, even saying that he "liked" it.
"Me in 2020: haha imagine thatcher was in doom, that would be funny wouldnt it", Purvis tweeted. "Me in 2022: Mr. Corbyn, try using the super shotgun on CyberThatcher".
If you haven't heard of Purvis' mod, it comes from the perspective of a Scot. In Scotland, Tory politicians are unpopular as is, but Thatcher managed to be even less liked as she closed down mining and steel industries while introducing the Poll Tax early to trial it before applying it to the rest of the UK. It's no surprise that Purvis was motivated enough to bring her into Doom.
Purvis was born the year she stepped down from her role as prime minister, but that didn't matter. She left a mark so severe it's still being felt today, and so this mod was his way of channelling that hatred into a satirical fun pastime. Britain then is dubbed the "Tenth Circle of Hell" given her return in grizzly demonic fashion.
