While the sequel has largely stolen its thunder, the first Red Dead Redemption was a big hit for Rockstar Games when it launched all the way back in 2010. Players and critics alike praised the open-world cowboy title for its atmospheric landscapes, its neat take on gunslinging, and most of all for its story and how it was told. It was a tragic tale that was brought to life by an excellent script. Acclaim was also heaped on the actor who helped to make John Marston such a special character.

Now, Rob Wiethoff, John Marston's actor, has said he will streaming Red Dead Redemption for the first time. Announced via a recent TikTok, Weithoff said he'd be streaming along with Dan Allen from Dan Allen Gaming. It's somewhat incredible that John Marston's actor has never played the game through, revealing he didn't because he wasn't good at it and didn't have time.

In Red Dead Redemption, John Marston faces an uphill struggle trying to outlive his former outlaw life, with authorities bearing down on him as he is charged with hunting down members of his old gang. Just as he seems to finally able to live a nice, quiet life, with his wife Abigail and son Jack, he is betrayed by the lawman Edgar Ross. It is one of the most impactful endings in video games, made even more poignant by the epilogue, with his son Jack seeking revenge, memorably included as just a side mission. Rob Weithoff's performance as John Marston was widely credited with helping to make the character so resonant.

The actor reprised his role for Red Dead Redemption 2, but has not had many roles outside the series, choosing to go into sales and construction to support his family while having a few small roles such as in the 2006 Bruce Willis feature 16 Blocks. However, he has popped up on local radio flogging tanning beds, and has said he "would love" to work on a Red Dead Redemption Remaster.

The stream is taking place today at 10am Eastern Time. Red Dead Redemption is available on PlayStation and Xbox and on PC.
