Although the first trailer shows little more than the Suicide Squad face-to-face with an evil Superman, what's to say the Joker might not return in Rocksteady's new game?
Before we get started, this article will feature some pretty significant spoilers pertaining to Rocksteady's Arkham trilogy. Anyone who hasn't played through all three games and doesn't want major plot points to be revealed should look away now. If you have played the games, or don't mind them being spoiled, then, by all means, read on.
On to what we're all here for, the Joker. Joker is the most iconic villain ever created by DC. It's why he has reared his head in so many forms every time a new actor dons the bat suit on the big screen. He was also the primary antagonist in the first two Arkham games. However, at the end of Arkham City, Joker finally meets his demise.
Rocksteady has confirmed Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League will take place in what it has dubbed the Arkhamverse. That means Joker technically exists, but he's dead and has been cremated for good measure. However, that doesn't mean Mark Hamill's take on the Clown Prince of Crime can't be a part of the highly-anticipated game. He appeared in Arkham Knight after all, at which point he was already dead.
Joker returns from the grave via hallucinations brought about by Scarecrow's fear toxin and a vile of the deceased's blood that is injected into Batman. However, the Dark Knight manages to get them under control by the end of the game. Since Harley Quinn is one of the main characters in Kill The Justice League, it's also possible Joker appears in nothing more than flashbacks detailing her past and origin story.
There's also the possibility that Brainiac, the villain responsible for turning Superman evil, reanimates Joker, or produces a clone of him. Suffice to say, there are plenty of ways in which the Joker can return from the dead. On the one hand, Rocksteady might want to leave Joker in the past and start a new chapter. On the other, almost everything DC is made better by the Joker.
