Jurassic World Evolution 2 has evolved past just containing dinosaurs with fences and now allows you to create aviaries. These modular buildings will house any flying dinosaurs you rescue or create.

While the basics of dinosaur care are the same for all dinosaurs the unique environment means setup and maintenance work slightly differently. Here's everything you need to know about how to build an aviary and care for your flying dinosaurs.

What Is An Aviary?

An aviary houses flying dinosaurs. Just like regular enclosures it requires a hatchery as well as feeders, a viewing platform and a tailored environment.

Aviary items are unique and scientists will need to research them in most cases. If you want to breed or rescue flying dinosaurs make sure you check that the facility is unlocked before your expedition.

How Do You Build Aviaries?

Aviaries are built using a modular system where dome shaped pieces are tiled together to form a large enclosure. There is no specific pattern they need to be in but the edges will always be rounded due to the shape of the pieces.

Aviary domes can be placed on most land. The exceptions are terrain that is very uneven, and any land with water on it. Water can be placed inside an aviary but this needs to be done seperately.

How Do You Change The Environment In An Aviary?

Most flying dinosaurs will require little in the way of terrain modification but they all require water. Many are pescivores and feeders will also need to be placed in water.

To change the terrain inside an aviary you'll need to zoom in so you can access the ground. Modifications can then be done through the menu as with regular enclosures. Mostly you'll need to add water and then place some rocks around the edges. You may also need to use terrain paint.

How Do You Add Feeders To An Aviary?

Feeders can be added to the ground in the usual way, except for the piscivore feeder which requires shallow water. You'll need to place a reasonable size lake into the enclosure and add feeders to it.

More than one feeder can be added to each lake, and if you have several dinosaurs this is recommended. Make sure to keep an eye on hunger levels so you can add more if required.

Do I Need A Hatchery On An Aviary?

Hatcheries are essential for aviaries. This is because all rescued dinosaurs are released into the enclosure through the hatchery. Any flying dinosaurs you breed will also be created and released from here. Technically the hatchery can then be removed, especially as dinosaurs can be airlifted upon release, however they also have another use.

Hatcheries act as a ranger point for patrols. Assigning ranger teams to a hatchery means they will check on the welfare of all dinosaurs inside your aviary. They will also refill any feeders.

Can Dinosaurs Escape From An Aviary?

Dinosaurs can escape from aviaries. The domes can be broken by unhappy dinosaurs and these can be flown through. An unhappy dinosaur will fly around your park until you recapture it.

Flying dinosaurs are not as dangerous as rampaging carnivores but they will still cause panic. Keeping capture teams assigned to aviaries will help reduce escape incidents.

Is There Anything Else I Need To Know About Aviaries?

Aviaries are particularly vulnerable during storms as they can easily be damaged and flying dinosaurs really love to slip out of the gaps. This is why researching and applying storm defences to your hatchery can help. It will reduce any storm damage to the building.

Piscivore feeders can also become infected with salmonella and in the enclosed aviary infection will spread fast. Damage, escapes, deaths and general chaos are likely to follow. Keep an eye on your feeders and make sure anything infected is disinfected immediately, and diseased animal promptly treated so they can't reinfect it.
