In light of the recent domestic battery and false imprisonment charges made against Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland, Hulu has confirmed that it's dropping him from Solar Opposites and Koala Man. Both shows are set to continue without Roiland.
Earlier this month, charges for domestic battery and false imprisonment against Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland were made public after he appeared on trial in Orange County. The allegations made against Roiland have led to Adult Swim cutting ties with him and recasting his roles on Rick and Morty, and have seen him resign from Squanch Games, the game studio he founded that recently released High on Life.
Now, it seems that even more projects that Roiland has been involved with are cutting him out. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Hulu has confirmed that it will be dropping Roiland from Solar Opposites and Koala Man. Roiland co-created and acted as executive producer on Solar Opposites, as well as voicing one of its main characters, Korvo. Roiland also voiced Chad Wagon in Koala Man.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a spokesperson for Hulu said, "We have ended our association with Justin Roiland". It is reported that both Solar Opposites and Koala Man will continue without Roiland, with his roles presumably being recast similarly to what Adult Swim is planning to do for Rick and Morty.
Following the charges of domestic battery and false imprisonment being made public, several other allegations have been made against Roiland. One Twitter user claimed that Roiland had been grooming them when they were 15, with Roiland allegedly using his status as the co-creator of Rick and Morty as an excuse to talk to minors.
Writer and producer Jordan Crucchiola also revealed that journalists have been chasing stories to do with Roiland's abuse for years, but that his status made it difficult. Crucchiola said, "I know journalists who have pursued stories about him since YEARS before that. There are more women. There are more stories."
Roiland has yet to comment on the charges, although his attorney, T. Edward Welbourn, had this to say, "To be clear, not only is Justin innocent, but we also have every expectation that this matter is on course to be dismissed once the district attorney’s office has completed its methodical review of the evidence.”
