One of the most surprising games releasing in 2022 is Kao the Kangaroo, a reboot of an obscure platforming series that started life on the Dreamcast before sadly going quiet after three solid releases. Those who played Kao back in the day were generally very positive about the series, so it came as a nice surprise for fans to see a reboot of the series after over a decade of silence.
Having been revealed during Kao's 20th anniversary, the Kao the Kangaroo reboot has been in development for quite some time now and fans have been wondering when they can get their boxing gloves on the game themselves. Thanks to a new trailer, we now know that Kao the Kangaroo will launch on May 27.
The new trailer focuses in on Kao's boxing gloves, which are called the "ancient gloves" here. The gameplay footage shows that Kao can use fire, ice, and wind elements to modify his gloves and give him unique abilities. It also reveals that the gloves can talk to Kao and are an "ancient artifact", which is very different to how they were portrayed in the original games.
Alongside the new gameplay trailer and release date reveal, Kaja Borowko, head of Tate Multimedia, said this, “We’ve been blown away by the response we’ve had from gamers since we announced Kao the Kangaroo was making a return earlier this year. With this new chapter, we’ve set out to make sure the new Kao the Kangaroo both honours his previous outings and offers fresh, contemporary gameplay for fans new and old alike. This is a complete reboot for Kao, and we can’t wait to see how people take to it at launch!”
