After being announced earlier this year, Katy Perry has finally revealed when her new single celebrating Pokemon's anniversary will debut.

Pokemon turns 25 this year and has done and continues to do a lot of things to mark the occasion. While new games have been welcomed and were expected, the musical tributes to the franchise have been a little more surprising. First Post Malone's virtual performance on Pokemon Day, and next up the release of a Pokemon-themed single from Katy Perry.

Perry's incoming Pokemon song was one of the first things announced for Pokemon's 25th celebrations. However, it has been radio silence on the tribute since then. Until now. Perry dropped a teaser and a poster for the new song, also announcing that the full track will be released on Spotify this Friday. The track will be called Electric, and the very short teaser below gives Pokemon fans an idea of how it might sound.

Anyone eager to hear the song can pre-save it right now on Spotify, but you'll have to wait three more days to hear it in full. The poster suggests Pikachu will feature heavily in the track, hopefully as a featured artist rather than just the video that will likely accompany the song's release. Despite Pikachu's popularity, we're also hoping it won't be the only Pokemon to make the cut.

Other than the musical numbers, Pokemon's creators have marked the franchise turning 25 in a number of other ways. On the video game front, New Pokemon Snap hit Nintendo Switch last month. Its launch weekend sales were quadruple that of the original game, a good sign for other recently announced Pokemon titles coming later this year and into 2022.

Those titles include remakes of Diamond and Pearl, Pokemon Legends: Arceus, and Pokemon Unite on mobile. Pokemon isn't the only major video game franchise celebrating a milestone this year. Zelda, Sonic, Crash, and Tomb Raider also have big birthdays. However, Pokemon seems to be the only one that cares about its own anniversary with little announced for any of the other iconic series mentioned.
