We've had RPGs based on animes or visual novels, and vice versa. But Korean Dramas becoming a source material for RPGs isn't a hot conversation people are having unless you count Sweet Home's undeniable influence in the creation of Resident Evil.

It's such a shame since a lot of KDramas have elements that perfectly suit RPGs—whether they're high school dramas or historical fantasies, there are a lot of KDramas that are wasted because they aren't playable. Devs should take a look at these KDramas for their next big RPG project, they're likely to pull a lot of fans in.

10 Memories Of Alhambra

Memories of Alhambra featuring Hee-joo and Jin-woo

It's a mystery how Memories of Alhambra never became an RPG, considering how it takes place somewhere "more magical than Alhambra" and could've easily taken on the formula of "a game within a game".

The drama follows a wealthy CEO named Yoo Jin-woo who took interest in buying a groundbreaking AR game that allows users to access a virtual world full of medieval fighting through a pair of smart contact lenses.

So not everything is as they seem in Hostel Bonita, you just have to put on a pair of new eyes. You can probably tell by now that things feel a little too real in this virtual world—like that time you tried to play Skyrim in VR, except the game's consequences bleed into real life in this one.

9 Dream High

Dream High K-drama Cast

Maybe you're not exactly in for a reality-warping adventure, and you just want to redo high school and peak this time around. Dream High might be an old KDrama, but it's still a pretty good reference if you want to make an RPG where your goal is to be an idol.

Revel in high school drama and rivalry, and battle it out through music as you go through high school in Dream High. If you watched this drama, you might even argue that this show is perfect in visual novel format—even if some scenes and events didn't age well.

8 Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo

Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo featuring Hae Soo and Wang Wook

Most respectable RPGs have a time-travel element, and Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo got that, and so much more that qualifies it for a good RPG adaptation. When you have a rough life like Ha-jin, there will be times you'd wish that you could live another person's life instead.

And that's exactly what happens—not only did she travel back to the Goryeo Dynasty, but she also took another identity altogether as a consequence. It's all about rejecting modernity and embracing tradition in this KDrama—and what's meant by tradition are power struggles and court politics, which can be fitting for a good turn-based strategy RPG.

7 Hotel del Luna

Hotel del Luna featuring Man-wol and Chan-sung

Have you ever had your life planned ahead of you and had your dream at the ends of your fingertips, only to be pulled away from it because of another person's wishes or some tragic event that leave you no choice but to give your control up? You might be wondering if this is Fire Emblem: Engage, or Ghostwire: Tokyo.

But the answer is neither, and the plot pretty much sums up Hotel del Luna. Instead of managing a multinational hotel corporation, Harvard graduate Gu Chan-sung agrees to manage a hotel with ghostly guests who have unfinished business with Manwol.

With the number of people who need help to cross over, you can already imagine the number of side quests and stories you can make with this KDrama.

6 Itaewon Class

Itaewon Class featuring Yi-seo and Sae-ro-yi

It's not a KDrama without an elaborate revenge plot and a ton of injustice leveled against the marginalized protagonist, but the same can be said with a lot of iconic RPGs. Bullied and bereaved Sae-ro-yi swore revenge against his high school bully for getting his father fired from his job (and directly killed) and getting him locked up.

The revenge aspect of Itaewon Class is definitely satisfying, but so is the restaurant managing part of it and venturing within the district of Itaewon itself. It would be nice to have this series become an open-world RPG, with Itaewon being interactive and lively like Yakuza's Kamuro-cho.

5 Kingdom

Kingdom KDrama Cast

Before Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty was engulfed by chaos and demons, Kingdom the KDrama featured an apocalyptic Joseon Dynasty overruled by zombie-like creatures. It's the perfect setting not just for RPGs, but any soulslike game especially with the monsters present in this game.

The political and palace intrigue present in this KDrama thickens the plot, and if a game were to be made about this—the search for the cure for the plague is just a quest among many others, as you traverse Joseon as Crown Prince Lee Chang.

4 Vincenzo

Song Joong Ki as Vincenzo Cassano from Vincenzo

You've completed all the Shenmue games and all the Yakuza games, including Lost Judgment and Yakuza: Like a Dragon. If you're hoping for another game that has a complicated, underground crime world that reminds you of the other games, but with a South Korean and Italian take to it, maybe developers should take a look at Vincenzo.

Vincenzo Cassano was taken in by the head of the Cassano Family and eventually became a lawyer and consigliere for the family. After his adoptive father's death, he gives it all up and travels to his country of origin to recover his wealth—which is an endeavor that evolves to be more complicated than it should be.

3 W: Two Worlds Apart

W: Two Worlds Apart featuring Oh Yeon-joo and Kang Chul

A lot of JRPGs aren't complete without the isekai trope, and W: Two Worlds Apart masterfully wields this element and effectively used the trope to bring its watchers to tears. The story revolves around a fictional male character who gains awareness of his all-too-perfect life, and later on, realizes that he's living in a world that was written by somebody else.

The daughter of the author (Yeon-joo) is a surgeon in real life, who gets pulled into the fictional world and meets the fictional main character, who her father (the author) intends to kill. If it sounds complicated, it should probably have a game.

2 Alchemy Of Souls

Alchemy of Souls featuring Naksu and Jang Uk

From magic. martial arts, up to scheming noble families, Alchemy of Souls easily ticks the boxes of a great action RPG in the making. Naksu is trapped in the body of Mu-deok, despite being a great warrior—another case of a strong spirit, and weak constitution.

She becomes Jang Uk's servant, who she trains and falls in love with as they fight destiny. Body-swapping, fate-defying plot aside, this KDrama's magic system would probably have a great skill tree, should it ever become a game.

1 Taxi Driver

Taxi Driver K-Drama Cast

There are many ways vehicles can kill you in video games, but this death cab's driver will be the one to kill you intentionally Hitman style (if you've done anything unforgivable). Kim Do-gi is a Korea Military Academy graduate whose mother was murdered, and he essentially becomes a mercenary for those who want to take revenge.

The company he works for offers a "revenge call", which brings vigilante justice to victims of various crimes. Think Bruce Wayne, but he's not a multimillion-dollar heir—just a normal guy who's tired of the injustice in Korean society.
