Keanu Reeves visited Kojima Productions today, and in a series of tweets by Hideo Kojima, the game creator implied that the two are up to some collaborative work. Kojima referred to Reeves as “our Keanu,” who spent some time at the studio posing for photos and signing a wall of kitchen area.

The visit seems to have been planned, yet no one seems to know exactly why Keanu was at the studio. Does one simply drop into the place where Hideo Kojima creates games with his own distinctive brand? Perhaps Keanu has mastered the pop-in, but more likely, there is some collaborative project afoot.

TheGamer's own, Jamie Latour, recently wrote that Kojima had previously selected Mads Mikkelsen over Reeves for Death Stranding. While Reeves was apparently the first pitched for the role, Kojima was a fan of Mikkelsen from the TV show Hannibal.

Perhaps now the pair are exploring a potential future project, or have one already established. Death Stranding must be all but completed now, or one would hope, as the release date is a mere two months away on November 8th of this year. So, what would a Reeves and Kojima collaboration look like? Given the broad range and strangeness of Kojima’s projects, and the madness we are about to experience in Death Stranding, it is anyone’s guess as to what the pair could do.

There is also the possibility that Keanu may have been speaking to Kojima about something in a different medium altogether. Recently, Reeves and his business partner, the visual artist Alexandra Gran, have created X Artists’ Books, an imprint full of esoteric titles. Much like Reeve’s other activities, such as his custom motorcycles, this publishing venture is in sync with his persona, which is to say, rooted in artless sincerity.

In this sense, Reeves might be the one pitching for a project in a literary medium rather than a video game. Kojima is considered a writer within his own games, but perhaps with the conclusion of Death Stranding, we could see a book written by the man. Certainly, it would be fascinating to read something by the master of all that is weird and fantastic in video games, whether about his experiences, his process, or something else entirely.

Of course, the entire visit could have simply been an unexpected, spontaneous event, but that seems far less conspiratorial, and fun, than assuming the pair are cooking something up together.
