If Marvel president Kevin Feige got his way, all six of the MCU's original Avengers would have died in Endgame.

Avengers: Endgame was a huge moment in cinematic history. Not just for the MCU, but for the entire movie industry. The culmination of more than a decade of work, tying together a meticulously weaved web of more than 20 movies in the process. Although the MCU has continued on since then, it brought the curtain down on a few of its longest-running stories at the time.

Major spoilers ahead from this point in if you are yet to see Endgame. It has been out for two and a half years and you are reading an article about what could have happened in it so really, you get what you deserve if we spoil some major plot points for you in the next sentence. If Marvel president Kevin Feige had his way, pretty much everyone who went to see Endgame would have been inconsolable. According to new book The Story of Marvel Studios: The Making of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Feige's big idea was to kill off all six of the MCU's original Avengers during Endgame.

“Kevin's initial pitch was that it was Toy Story 3 - a 'they're all gonna jump into a furnace together' concept,” reads a quote from Endgame director Joe Russo. Joe and his brother Anthony, who directed Endgame, Infinity War, and Captain American: Civil War alongside him, fought back against the idea. They argued that there wouldn't be time to celebrate all six of them over the course of the movie and that it would be too much for fans to process after watching it unfold.

The comparison to Toy Story 3 suggests Feige wanted all six of the original Avengers to die at the same time. Like that scene from the Pixar movie where it seems as if the toys are going to fall into the furnace, except in Feige's Endgame, they actually would have. Instead just Iron Man and Black Widow were iced, while Captain America got his own happy ending. Hulk, Thor, and Hawkeye continue on, although some fans believe the archer will meet his demise in his Disney+ series debuting next month.
