It looks like the rumors were right after all – realistic medieval open-world RPG Kingdom Come: Deliverance is officially coming to Nintendo Switch, although we don't have a specific release date yet.
The announcement came straight from Warhorse Studios, the Czech team behind Kingdom Come: Deliverance, originally released in 2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. According to the crew, “the unthinkable" Switch release became possible due to the fans’ overwhelming feedback.
As of now, all we know is that Warhorse Studios will be co-working with Saber Interactive for the portable edition of Kingdom Come. Saber has tremendous experience with Nintendo Switch ports, including work on The Witcher 3, Call of Cthulhu, Vampyr, Crysis Remastered, and SnowRunner. All things considered, Kingdom Come: Deliverance is probably in good hands here.
Kingdom Come is powered by CryEngine, meaning the team will have to significantly optimize the project to be comfortably playable on Switch’s hardware. Most likely, the devs will sacrifice the title’s resolution and overall details as was the case with The Witcher 3.
Currently, there is no release window announcement for Kingdom Come on Switch, so we have to be patient here. Interestingly, there was a leak featuring the game’s Royal Edition coming to Switch earlier this year only to be denied by the devs, who said a Switch version “is [not] planned at the moment.”
In June 2020 Warhorse announced it sold over three million copies of Kingdom Come across all platforms. Many fans were expecting a sequel to the title at some point, though the developer remains silent on the matter. It is unknown what the Czech team is working on these days.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance publisher Deep Silver will be showcasing its upcoming projects during the Koch Primetime live stream, starting at 12am PT/ 3pm ET/ 8pm BST on June 11. The company has said it won’t be showing off franchises like Dead Island, Saints Row, Metro, and TimeSplitters at the show or any other E3 2021 event.
