The mods keep pouring in for Kingdom Hearts 3, with one creative player equipping Sora with the iconic Buster Sword from Final Fantasy 7. It might be a little too big for him, though.
This new weapon for Sora to handle (Cloud wouldn't be too mad, right?) can be found by downloading the mod on the official Nexus. Disney would likely not approve of this, but it's neat to see Sora wielding one of gaming's coolest weapons. If you think the Buster Sword is overrated, however, you can add the Twin Stinger too - both of which can be found in Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
It's actually surprising that the Buster Sword hasn't been referenced in prior games like the Lionheart's gunblade-like design in Kingdom Hearts 2. We went pretty in-depth with the keyblade designs in KH2 here.
This all began when the Kingdom Hearts series finally made its way to the PC through the Epic Games Store in recent weeks. The cost seemed pretty high for many when it first released at a full $59.99, but with the addition of mods, many KH fans will be tempted by the possibilities of what the community can do.
We've already seen a mod that adds Pence, Olette, and Hayner's original costumes from Kingdom Hearts 2 into the game, and they look official. On the other hand, some of the mods are pretty horrifying like a creepy Thomas the Tank Engine as the tram in Twilight Town.
The most useful mod so far is the removal of the ingredient lines from the original release. Every minute or so it seemed like, Sora, Donald, and Goofy called out that there may be ingredients nearby in the area. As the same lines were uttered over and over again, they became irritating. Thankfully, they have been removed almost entirely by NormieMods.
Moving forward, mods will likely continue to cross into Kingdom Hearts 3 and its prior titles. There is currently a randomizer mode being added to Kingdom Hearts 2's HD remaster that has been popular in the PCSX2 emulator scene.
Whatever happens, the Kingdom Hearts series seems to have a bright future ahead of it. Melody of Memory marked the beginning of a new phase as we close the chapter of Master Xehanort's storyline. We're expecting news of the next title in 2022 as it marks the 20th anniversary of the first Kingdom Hearts game.
