Series director Tetsuya Nomura has confirmed that there are no new worlds featured in Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory.

According to an interview with French outlet Gamekult, Nomura explained that the concept of the game is about looking to the past. Kairi has to reconsider the history of their past adventures to find a way to save Sora. Nomura with a rough translation from Google said, "Incorporating new content through new worlds wouldn't have stuck."

Melody of Memory is a musical celebration of the Kingdom Hearts series and allows old and new fans to reconnect with the plot of all 10 games. It will feature Yoko Shimomura's extraordinary soundtracks across the series, alongside some vocal songs like "Let It Go" by Idina Menzel and "Simple and Clean" by Utada Hikaru. According to the Gamekult interview, the tracks are unlocked by playing through the story.

Despite the lack of new worlds, this will seemingly have a lot of content; we previously reported that there will be 47 worlds and 10 hours of gameplay behind this walk down memory lane. Melody of Memory will also feature co-op and competitive multiplayer online for the first time in the series.

The game will be played in multiple ways, depending on the type of song that has been chosen. For a more emotional or slower number, Memory Dive has Sora and the gang glide around the screen. With the field music, you take out enemies in time with the music with mid-air attacks and special abilities. Lastly, there are the epic boss battles that come with a rhythmic twist.

We're excited to try out Melody of Memory when it releases on November 11, 2020 for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One. Unfortunately, there will be no next-gen versions of the game. Nomura even said during the Gamekult interview that the team hasn't even received dev kits for the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X. Hopefully the game will be backwards compatible.

Regardless, we can't wait to see what new Kingdom Hearts worlds await for us on Sora's next adventure. A new project is apparently in the works for a 2022 release. A Treasure Planet world is a must, right? Right!?
