After the confirmation from Nomura a few months ago that Missing Link is approaching its closed beta period, it's looking likely that it'll be the next Kingdom Hearts game we get to play. With that in mind, fans are starting to discuss theories based on the brief trailer we received earlier in the year, including speculating on the identity of the main character.

Throughout the Missing Link trailer, we get a glimpse of the game's playable character, who is shown by default to wear an outfit very reminiscent of a pirate. Throughout the trailer we see various different playable characters, implying that they're customised and chosen by the player, similarly to Union X. Although you might assume that this character is just a proxy for the player and has no set identity, Union X and Dark Road taught us that just because a character isn't named or set, doesn't mean they're not crucial to the story.

Because the past two mobile games have made our custom character a core part of the canon, it's safe to assume that Missing Link will do the same too, which has led to several theories popping up on the Kingdom Hearts subreddit over who they might be. One thread started by Redditor TheFinalRedditer777 has a number of interesting theories that seem pretty likely to be true.

The most upvoted comment on the thread suggests that the player character is actually a reincarnated version of the player character from Union X, who was also the figure in the blue robe who raised Xehanort. Considering the whole customisable character thing, this theory holds a lot of weight and seems likely to be the case.

Some believe that the character shown is actually completely seperate from the Union X hero as, despite the blue-robed figure saying they had two lives, we've been bait-and-switched before about their identity and that it makes more sense to be someone brand new.

Of course, in between all the legitimate theories are some jokes that they're going to be in Sora's heart, they're another Xehanort, or that they're the BHK (bonus points if you get the reference without looking it up). Wouldn't be Kingdom Hearts without there being some chance of that being true.
