Kirby and the Forgotten Land is unique for both a Kirby game and for a 3D platformer. It is the first Kirby game to be fully 3D, yet its levels are not as open as other traditional 3D platformers like Super Mario Odyssey. As such, it requires a unique approach on your part as a player in order to conquer it.

Follow the tips below to make your time with Kirby and the Forgotten Land more enjoyable and accessible. Even if you are familiar with the Kirby franchise, many aspects of the character and the mechanics will feel new and different because of how they are translated to 3D.

8 Complete The Treasure Road Stages

After certain levels, new portals open up on the world map. These are treasure road stages. These give you a special Rare Stone upon completion. Used to buy upgrades for Kirby's transformation powers, they're a tremendously helpful component to later levels.

They are short and are generally easy, so you should take the time to complete them as they come. You can also find them in hidden places on the world map, so be sure to cruise over the surrounding areas of each world to uncover all of them. You also do not have to complete the par time to earn the Rare Stone.

7 Save Star Coins For Upgrades

There are numerous things on which you can spend coins, from healing items to a machine that dispenses collectible figurines. Ultimately, the one thing you will need to make the later levels easier is the upgrades you buy in Waddle Dee Town.

Don't bother buying anything else, simply use all your money to become stronger. The collectibles can wait until after you complete all the levels and buy all the upgrades.

6 Always Go In The Other Direction The Game Tells You First

The levels in Kirby and the Forgotten Land are mostly linear. When multiple paths present themselves, the game usually nudges you one way over the other. Always go the other way first. There will usually be a secret or a collectible lying in wait.

This also goes for cracks in the walls or nooks and crannies that might lead somewhere. The secrets are not extremely well hidden, making most of them easy to spot on a first run through the level.

5 Break Everything

This Kirby adventure contains a surprisingly large amount of destructible objects, including garbage cans. Many levels also contain unique breakable objects not found in other areas.

Use your powers to attack anything out of the ordinary, you might just find it breakable. They might come with a challenge to break several of the same object in the level, earning you a waddle for completion. Health items are often hidden in these objects as well.

4 Co-Op Comes With Some Caveats

Many traditional Kirby games come with cooperative play. If you are thinking about going through this game with a friend, you should know a few things first. Before your friend joins, you have to complete the prologue level. Then, you can activate co-op from the hub area.

Both players are always on the same screen. Once in the levels, Kirby is always the leader and the second player has to stay within the protagonist's vicinity. Go too far away and the player warps back, so be aware of your buddy's lack of agency in co-op.

3 Blowing Stars At Bosses Does A Lot Of Damage

If you go into a boss fight without powers, your only course of action is to swallow the stars the enemy drops and shoot them back at the foe. This is a pretty powerful move.

Even if you go into a battle with a power equipped, we suggest tactically dropping the power, swallowing and shooting a star, and then picking up the power once again. This way, you get the best of both worlds. Just don't let the power drop for too long, or it will disappear.

2 It Gets Harder Later On

Kirby games are not known for their intense difficulty. The Forgotten Land also starts off easy, but don't let this fool you into a false sense of security.

The game slowly notches up the challenge with each subsequent world. It becomes surprisingly challenging during the last third or so of the adventure. Bosses especially become formidable. Even though you fight the same ones several times over, they deal more damage and have more health each time, along with improved attacks.

1 It's Okay To Fail

One of the best things about this game's challenge is how forgiving it is. Kirby and the Forgotten Land doesn't want you to be mad at it for failing. As such, no hazard will immediately take away your life.

Even falling off the edge of the level simply removes some health. Even if you do lose all your health, you won't be sent back to the beginning of the entire stage. You simply lose some coins and go back further to a checkpoint. With this in mind, do not be afraid to take risks because the penalty is low.
