The remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic has allegedly been delayed for an indefinite period of time following reports of troubled development. This is according to a new article by Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier, who explains that people familiar with the project are saying it's in serious trouble. Schreier also claims that the game's developer, Aspyr Media, abruptly fired both the art and design directors, Brad Prince and Jason Minor, this month. Aspyr's studio heads have reportedly put the entire project on pause while the developer looks for "new contracts and development opportunities."Related: Star Wars KOTOR 2 Deserves Better Than A Dodgy Switch PortAs for why, Schreier claims that developers had recently finished a "vertical slice" of the game to show to Lucasfilm and Sony, seemingly excited and very pleased about the progress that had been made. It's unclear as to why Aspyr's studio heads then came back and told staff it wasn't near where they wanted it to be, but Schreier's sources suggest that it could be because too much time and money had gone into the vertical slice for development to be sustainable or that the game was going to miss its expected 2022 release by a few years at least.

The KOTOR remake was announced during a PlayStation Showcase back in 2021 and was later confirmed to be a PS5 exclusive. Details have been sparse about the title since its reveal, but we do know that Saber Interactive has been working with Aspyr and that it was rumored that the title was expected to release at some point in 2023. Now that these two directors have been fired and the game has been delayed indefinitely, the future of the entire project is unclear.
