Konami has been revisiting some of its old series and revamping many classic titles for modern systems of late. It's possible that one of Konami's most infamous series might be due for a revival, as the company has trademarked the Silent Hill name in Canada.

Silent Hill is a series of horror games set in the titular American town, where many people have been forced to face representations of their own worst fears. The last game in the Silent Hill series was Silent Hill: Downpour back in 2012, which received a mixed response from critics. There was another game planned for the series, called Silent Hills, that was being developed by Hideo Kojima and would have starred Norman Reedus, but this project was canceled and both Kojima and Reedus went on to make Death Stranding

Konami has been revisiting games from its back catalog in recent years, with Bomberman, Castlevania, and Contra all receiving revamp collections or new entries. It's possible that Silent Hill will be the next series to receive this treatment, as Bloody Disgusting is reporting that Konami has filed a trademark application for the Silent Hill name in Canada.

There are several possible reasons that Konami would be interested in renewing the trademark for Silent Hill (outside of general bookkeeping), as 2019 marks the 20th anniversary of the release of the first game in the series. Capcom recently had a great deal of success with the Resident Evilremake, so it's possible that Konami is planning a similar remake with the original Silent Hill.

Konami has also been releasing a lot of retro collections recently. It's possible that the company might want to release a Silent Hill collection, which would be made easier by the fact that Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3 already received HD ports for the last generation of consoles.

It's also possible that Konami might want to revive the series with new entries or spin-offs. It has been seven years since the release of Silent Hill: Downpour and the time might be right for a return to the fog-covered town of Silent Hill.
