What has quite literally been a years-long belief that a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake was in the works at Konami was finally confirmed to be true this week during the PlayStation Showcase. Of course, it only makes sense that immediately after the wait for confirmation finally came to an end, the Metal Gear studio did something that now has many convinced a Metal Gear Solid 4 remaster is in the works too.One of the highlights of Wednesday's Showcase was confirmation the Snake Eater remake is real and that it will be here before the end of 2023. Plus, HD versions of the original three games will be packaged together as the Master Collection for PS5 later this year too. As highlighted by ComicBook, it's the name of the collection and an accompanying statement that has got Metal Gear fans thinking.The Master Collection is made up of the first three games. However, you can see in the graphic below there's a fourth slot with a question mark in it. Under that question mark it reads “stay tuned for more information”. Konami has also dubbed the collection volume one, strongly suggesting there will be more volumes in the future.
As if all of that wasn't enough evidence there will probably be more Metal Gear remasters in the future, the accompanying statement affirms Konami's desire to bring all games in the series to modern platforms. Right now, Metal Gear Solid 4 is only available on PS3. Two generations old and bound to a single console. Getting the game on PS5, and hopefully Xbox Series X|S too, is likely a must for Konami.
Fans of the series have volume one of The Master Collection and the Snake Eater remake to look forward to for now, though. As video game writers debated how exactly we're supposed to format the symbol Konami has decided to throw into the remake's title (thanks for that), it was confirmed the original voice cast has returned for the remake. A big win immediately made even bigger.
The two Metal Gear Solid announcements were highlights in what some have labeled a disappointing PlayStation Showcase, perhaps because expectations were dialed up a little too high. Also among the high points was a Dragon's Dogma 2 gameplay trailer, PlayStation's Project Q streaming device, and a long look at Spider-Man 2 to close the show.
