Rockstar's L.A. Noire is an open-world, detective thriller RPG set in crime-ridden 1947 Los Angeles, and arguably even better than Sherlock Holmes. The game follows a young Cole Phelps, who decides to join the police force after his traumatic experiences in World War 2.

Phelps shows that he's a straight-laced fellow with a strong sense of justice. He has a knack for sniffing out a rat and this helps him wrap up murder cases left and right. From the Black Dahlia Killer to cracking down a drug ring, L.A. Noire's murders are merely tiny breadcrumbs leading to something bigger.

If you have yet to play L.A. Noire, be warned that this list will contain spoilers for the cases included.

Hammond angers the mobsters, but Earle is determined to get to him first. Phelps and Earle discover that Hammond had bet on himself instead, thus scoring a large sum. Hammond's manager kills the boxer's girlfriend, but Phelps and Earle manage to off him in a shootout. Instead of arresting him, Phelps gives all the winnings to Hammond and helps him escape.

1 The Driver's Seat

L.A. Noire Phelps questions a suspect

Phelps and Bekowsky are called into a murder scene, with blood all over the dashboard of the victim's car. The car belongs to Adrian Black, whose body is missing.
