Naughty Dog has announced it will be revealing all-new The Last Of Us content this weekend to celebrate The Last Of Us Day on September 26.

September 26 is known among fans of the games as The Last Of Us Day. Not because that's when either of the two games were released, they both launched in June seven years apart. September 26 is the day in the first game that the outbreak reached critical mass. When there was no turning back for Joel, Ellie, and the rest of the world in which the two games take place.

Naughty Dog has revealed via the PlayStation Blog that it will be celebrating this year's Last Of Us Day in a very special way. By announcing all-new Last Of Us content, as well as revealing a range of new Last Of Us merch. As for what that content might be is currently anyone's guess. The most likely scenario would be the long-awaited reveal of The Last Of Us Part 2's Factions.

Factions is a multiplayer mode included in the first game, and it was supposed to also be included in Part 2. However, the game was deemed to already be so big that Naughty Dog decided Part 2's Factions would be a standalone game. Various clues have emerged hinting that the studio is still hard at work building Factions, and it might now be in a place where it can reveal some concrete details to the world.

There's an outside chance the new content is DLC for The Last Of Us 2. Eight months after the first game was released it received the Left Behind DLC. The extra content filled in some of the original game's story, and also told players more about Ellie's past. While a possibility, it seems unlikely that Part 2 will be getting something similar since there has been no mention of it.

What it almost definitely won't be is news about The Last Of Us Part 3. It took Naughty Dog seven years to make Part 2, and it isn't going to rush the next chapter if there is even going to be one. While Neil Druckmann has confirmed the outline for a third game has been written, he added that it isn't in development and there hasn't even been a conversation confirming that it will ever be.
