During Sony's latest State of Play, the release date for The Last of Us Part II was finally revealed. Sony has a bunch of titles releasing for the PlayStation 4, but arguably none has generated the amount of excitement as the sequel to the 2013 hit.

When it comes to listing some of the greatest games of this generation, one will almost always find The Last of Us near the top. The Last of Us featured an emotional storyline with Joel and Ellie. Players grew attached to these characters as they tried to survive the aftermath of a massive virus outbreak across the United States. Today, Sony held its latest State of Play, and the final thing the company showed was a new trailer for The Last of Us Part II. After the footage, the release date was revealed: February 21, 2020. Check out the trailer below.

Although a majority of the footage is cinematic in nature, toward the end players are given a few quick shots of gameplay. The Last of Us Part II is looking grand. In fact, the PlayStation Blog says the title is the "most ambitious and longest game" in Naughty Dog's history. Although it's still early, it appears The Last of Us Part II will live up to the legacy of its predecessor.

In addition to the release date, Sony revealed a few different editions fans will be able to purchase. Once again, the rumors were right: there will be a Special Edition, Collector's Edition, and an Ellie Edition. Digital buyers will want to pre-order the Digital Deluxe Edition. As for what these contain, the Special Edition contains a steelbook, mini art book, and digital contents, including a PS4 theme and avatars. The Collector's Edition contains all that, but also a 12 inch statue of Ellie, a life-size replica of the bracelet Ellie wears, pins, stickers, a lithograph art print, and a digital soundtrack.

Really dedicated fans may be interested in the Ellie Edition. It contains everything already stated, but also a full-size recreation of Ellie's backpack that is functional, an embroidered patch, and a seven inch vinyl record featuring tunes from the game. The Digital Deluxe Edition contains all the digital content, plus Ellie's tattoo as a PSN avatar for pre-ordering. Of course, fans who just want the game can buy the Standard Edition. However, pre-ordering any of these will grant the player gameplay bonuses at launch.
