Layers of Fears, a sequel to Layers of Fear 2, has just been unveiled at Summer Game Fest. The new trailer gives us new, terrifying visuals, as well as a release window of early 2023.

The sequel - which I swear is actually called Layer of Fears - was unveiled in a trailer that many would have been expecting to be a Silent Hill reveal. However, we now know that Bloober Team is indeed working on a follow up to its 2016 horror hit, and its 2019 sequel.

Another Layers of Fear game was teased last year, and it was suggested that it would launch this year. However, likely because of Silent Hill-related holdups, it's now aiming for a 2023 launch window, albeit still early in the year.

"Face a spine-chilling madness that extends over generations", read the game's description. "Layers of Fears is a psychedelic horror chronicle - a new game built upon the foundations of the previous #LayersOfFear games, with a surprising new story and gameplay direction."

The new trailer doesn't give us much of an idea of what this new gameplay direction will be, but we do get a look at the new story. And as we can already see, it's creepy as hell.

Like some recently announced titles, it will be omitting a last-gen release. Instead, console players will have to pick up either a PS5 or Xbox Series X/S to experience the next chapter in the Layers of Fear series. It will also be available on PC, via both Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Silent Hill fans will have to wait a little longer for the official reveal, it seems. Previous leaks that were pretty extensive point to Bloober Team developing the next title in this series, and it will reportedly be set in the UK. That's all rumoured right now though, and Bloober has refused to comment on these reports.
