On March 2nd, it was announced League of Legends Champions Korea would be suspending the season once the first half of the season reached its conclusion. The LCK would soon join the growing list of esports (and even traditional sports) suspended, or even completely canceled, due the Coronavirus outbreak. Sources now say South Korea's top esports competition might be returning sooner than expected, but in a different way than before.

It seems that LCK will return from its suspension with an online format, forgoing playing in a studio without a live audience, but no actual details of this format were announced. This type of flexibility is a benefit to the esports scene as the Overwatch League recently announced an online format through the end of April in hopes of waiting out the worst of the virus and catch up those teams that fell behind in terms of matches due to early season cancellations. The Call of Duty League is also looking to take advantage of online play to continue their season.

It doesn't seem like that long ago the LCK kicked off its 2020 spring season in an empty stadium, but things have evolved rapidly since then. The various leagues have presumably been scrambling to come up with the best solutions possible to not only continue their seasons in some fashion but ensure the safety and health of everyone involved.

Once the LCK does get underway again, it will be interesting to see if Gen.G will continue to stand atop the rankings after holding the top spot heading into the suspension. If the LCK really does begin online play at the end of March, it won't be much longer until League fans can get their fix once more.
